Who is Varang in Avatar: Fire and Ash?
Avatar.com identifies Varang as the fierce warrior leading the Mangkwan Clan, a group introduced in the film’s first trailer. The footage offers a glimpse of a new part of Pandora and places Varang among the story’s central figures.

In the trailer, Varang says: “The fire came from the mountain, burned our forest,” as quoted on Avatar.com’s trailer-and-poster page. The line is fictional dialogue from the character, not a real-world statement.
When and where did the first trailer appear?
The first trailer’s debut was a theatrical exclusive ahead of screenings of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. That promotion was a past event, not a current requirement to see the trailer. Avatar.com later described the footage as an introduction to the Mangkwan Clan and its leader, Varang.

The official Avatar YouTube channel lists the first trailer as published on July 28, 2025. Its description names James Cameron as director and centers the story on Jake Sully, Neytiri, and the Sully family. Viewers can watch the trailer online rather than attend a theater.

Avatar.com’s later trailer page gives Avatar: Fire and Ash’s theatrical release date as December 19, 2025. The campaign thus moved from a theater-exclusive preview attached to The Fantastic Four: First Steps to an official online trailer release, with Varang and the Mangkwan Clan among the new story elements it introduced.
