Kim Dracula is the stage name of Samuel Wellings, an Australian musician associated with Hobart, Tasmania. Wellings first reached a wide audience in 2020 by posting metal reinterpretations of familiar songs on TikTok; a version of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” became the breakthrough. The project has since grown beyond covers, combining heavy music with pop, trap and industrial elements, including on the 2023 album A Gradual Decline In Morale.
Who is Kim Dracula?
Kim Dracula is the performing name of Australian musician Samuel Wellings. The project is associated with Hobart and Tasmania, but its early audience grew through social media rather than a conventional local-to-national career path. ABC News’ December 2024 profile describes Wellings’ rise and the role TikTok played in reaching listeners beyond Tasmania.
How did Kim Dracula become famous on TikTok?
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Wellings began sharing metal reinterpretations of familiar songs online. TikTok gave the musician a way to put those performances in front of listeners far beyond Tasmania. Wellings later described the platform to ABC News as “a doorway to a lot of things.”
The defining early success was a metal version of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.” It drew attention to the project and helped lead listeners toward Kim Dracula’s later original music. ABC News reported in December 2024 that the track had received more than 153 million Spotify listens at the time of publication; that is a dated figure, not a current play count.

What kind of music does Kim Dracula make?
Kim Dracula’s music does not fit neatly into one genre. ABC News has described it with terms including nu-metal, trap and deathcore, while an October 2025 interview with The Rockpit discussed movement among metal, trap, industrial and pop. Asked about combining styles, Kim Dracula said, “It comes naturally, but that’s not to say it’s unintentional.” The artist also said, “I don’t care about fitting into any sort of scene, nor do I particularly want to.”
That range helps explain why the “Paparazzi” reinterpretation is a useful introduction but not a complete description of the project: the catalog includes original songs as well as reinterpretations and collaborations. The Rockpit interview provides the artist’s own perspective on the genre-crossing approach.

What has Kim Dracula released?
Kim Dracula’s releases include the 2023 album A Gradual Decline In Morale, alongside singles and collaborations. The artist’s catalog continues to change: Apple Music lists “Molecular Conversion,” released July 22, 2026, among its releases. For the latest catalog information, see the Apple Music artist page.
What do the historical TikTok and Spotify figures show?
Older numbers describe particular reporting snapshots, not the artist’s present-day reach. In April 2021, The Music reported 3.2 million TikTok followers for Wellings’ account and 55,883,756 Spotify listens for the “Paparazzi” release. ABC News later reported that Kim Dracula was the fourth-most-followed Australian music artist on TikTok in 2020. These figures are useful as markers of the project’s early momentum, but they should not be read as current totals.
