The familiar face in the final Deadpool & Wolverine trailer is Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney, better known as X-23—the same character she played in Logan.
Who is Laura in the trailer?
Laura is the young mutant who formed a bond with Logan in the 2017 film Logan. Keen returns as Laura, rather than as a different character. TheWrap identified the reveal in its July 19, 2024 report on the final trailer: TheWrap’s trailer report.

In the trailer, Laura tells Wolverine, “You were always the wrong guy. Until you weren’t.” The line points to her history with Logan while also distinguishing the Wolverine she meets in this film from the one she knew.
Is this the same Laura from Logan?
Yes. Keen described her return as the same Laura, now a young adult, and spoke about revisiting the character with a more mature appreciation of Logan. “It was wonderful to get to come back to that and explore that as a grownup,” she told GameSpot: GameSpot’s interview with Dafne Keen.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Her appearance does not, by itself, establish that the ending of Logan has been undone. The trailer’s dialogue instead underscores that this story’s Wolverine is not simply the same Logan Laura knew.
Why does Laura return?
Executive producer Wendy Jacobson said Keen’s part was driven by the story, not simply by the opportunity to bring back a familiar character. “To us, it’s purely story-driven. If someone is showing up, they have a beginning, middle, and end. Dafne coming in gives the film a real emotional poignancy and resonance,” Jacobson told Inverse: Inverse’s interview with Wendy Jacobson.
