In Obi-Wan Kenobi, the fake Jedi is Haja Estree, a Daiyu con man played by Kumail Nanjiani. He pretends to be a Jedi to win the trust of locals on Daiyu. Because the title “The Fake Jedi” has been used for other Star Wars characters, the answer depends on which series you mean. This guide covers Haja first, then the other fake Jedi characters readers most often confuse with him.
The fake Jedi in Obi-Wan Kenobi: Haja Estree
Haja Estree appears in Obi-Wan Kenobi Part II, where Obi-Wan Kenobi encounters him on Daiyu. Haja is a con man who presents himself as a Jedi. He is not one, and the series makes that clear. StarWars.com’s feature on the character, written by features writer Kelly Knox, puts it this way:
“He may not be a true Jedi, but Haja displays their same kindness in his actions.”
That line captures the character’s central tension. Haja is a fraud, but his behavior toward the people he deceives is not purely cynical, which is why he is more memorable than a simple villain.

How Haja’s con works
According to a review of the episode, Haja’s Jedi persona depends on trickery rather than the Force. The review reports that he uses remote controls and magnets to make locals believe he has supernatural powers. He also takes payment for helping people leave Daiyu. The review is the only source for these specific methods, so treat the details as the reviewer’s account of what the show depicts.
Is Haja a good person?
The show does not reduce him to a swindler. The StarWars.com feature frames his actions as kind even though his identity is false. Whether that makes him sympathetic is a matter of interpretation, and viewers differ on how much the kindness outweighs the deception.

Other Star Wars characters called “The Fake Jedi”
The phrase “The Fake Jedi” is also the title of a Star Wars Rebels story, and a separate comic storyline features another impostor. Readers searching for “the fake Jedi” can mean any of these, so it helps to identify the series first.
Yeleb in Star Wars Rebels
The Star Wars Rebels story titled “The Fake Jedi” centers on Yeleb, a stranded pilot. He takes a lightsaber from a dead Jedi and poses as a Jedi to protect a village. Unlike Haja, Yeleb does not run a commercial scheme; his deception is tied to his need for a role among people who need protection.

Master Drooz in Jedi of the Republic
In the Jedi of the Republic comic storyline featuring Mace Windu, Master Drooz exploits people while claiming to be a Jedi. The story is issue #4 of that series, and Jedi investigate him. Drooz is an exploiter rather than a sympathetic impostor, so he is the least like Haja in tone.
