Taylor Swift has not named a real person as the subject of “…Ready For It?” Her own explanation, as reported by iHeartRadio in 2017, frames the song as a metaphor: a crime-and-punishment image of robbers, thieves and heists, built around the idea of finding a “partner in crime.” That explanation does not identify any individual, so claims that the song is about a specific muse go beyond what Swift has said publicly.
What Swift said about the song
The clearest on-record explanation comes from Swift’s Secret Sessions commentary for reputation, which iHeartRadio reported at its 2017 release event. As iHeartRadio quoted her:
“Basically, ‘…Ready For it’ is, it kind of introduces a metaphor you may hear more of throughout the rest album, which is like this kind of Crime and Punishment metaphor, where it talks about robbers, and thieves, and heists, and all that.”
Swift went on to describe the romantic core of the song as “finding your partner in crime,” and the thrill of feeling alike and imagining “Let’s rob banks together.” When you quote her, keep the attribution explicit: Swift told fans, as reported by iHeartRadio. The transcript is a secondary report of spoken commentary, not a first-party text published on her own site.

How the crime-and-punishment metaphor works
The song borrows the vocabulary of heists and criminal partnerships to describe a romance. The robbers, thieves and banks are not literal events; they are a way of expressing intimacy as complicity. Two people who understand each other well enough to plan something together, and who find that shared plan exciting, are the “partners in crime” of the song’s premise.
Swift presented this as a device she would return to across the album, not as a standalone story. That matters for reading the song: it is one piece of a broader set of images on reputation, and her description treats the metaphor as a lyrical framework rather than a biography.

Why the explanation does not name anyone
Swift’s reported comments describe the metaphor and the romantic dynamic it expresses. They do not say who inspired the lines, and they do not describe a single relationship as the source. Fans and commentators have speculated about real people over the years, but speculation of that kind is not the same as the artist’s stated meaning.

- Whether the claim comes from Swift herself, in an interview or official statement, with a date and a named outlet.

Critical reading of the Burton and Taylor reference
TIME’s November 2017 track-by-track analysis of reputation reads the song as playing with Swift’s public persona and romantic themes, and points to its reference to Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. That is useful critical interpretation of the song’s imagery, written shortly after release. It is not a statement from Swift, and it does not establish that the song is about a specific partner. Treat the allusion as a clue to how the lyrics were read by critics, not as proof of the song’s subject.

The song’s title and its crime-themed vocabulary make more sense when heard alongside the rest of the record, which Swift herself linked to the same metaphor. If you want the context Swift gave, listen to the song in album order and then read her explanation again.
Taken together, the evidence supports a clear answer: Swift describes “…Ready For It?” as a crime-and-punishment metaphor about a romantic partnership, and she does not identify a real person behind it.
