Stephen Hung is a Hong Kong businessman known for investment banking, private investment and luxury hospitality. His reality-show appearance was first discussed as a possibility in 2022; later coverage identified him and his wife, Deborah, as participants in Bling Empire: New York, which premiered on Netflix on January 20, 2023.
Who is Stephen Hung?
Tatler Asia describes Hung as chairman of SH Capital Group, a former head of Asia investment banking at Merrill Lynch and the founder of The 13, a luxury-hotel project in Macau. Those are profile descriptions, not an independent audit of his current company roles.
His public image is closely associated with high-end hospitality and conspicuous luxury. The 13, in particular, brought attention to plans for a lavish Macau property and an unusually large fleet of Rolls-Royce cars.
What was The 13?
The 13 was an ambitious luxury-hotel project in Macau. In a 2016 interview, Khaleej Times described it as a $1.4 billion project and reported plans for 30 Rolls-Royce Phantoms for guest use. Those figures describe the project as reported at the time; they do not establish its final cost, that the hotel opened, or that all 30 cars were delivered.

Hung framed the planning as a matter of business fundamentals. Asked about the project, he told Khaleej Times, “The first thing you always must do is make the numbers work.” On the proposed car fleet, he said, “It was functional. We needed 30 vehicles to serve our guests and in keeping with the hotel’s tone we settled on Rolls-Royce.” Both remarks were made in the 2016 interview.
Did Stephen Hung appear on a reality show?
Yes. Stephen and Deborah Hung were reported as participants in Bling Empire: New York. A South China Morning Post feature in March 2022 described their possible involvement in a succeeding season of Bling Empire as a rumor. Later coverage identified them as participants in the New York edition, which premiered on Netflix on January 20, 2023, according to My Imperfect Life.
