He reached a wider audience after two guest appearances on Beyoncé’s 2024 album Cowboy Carter, and his own single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Beyoncé tracks and the No. 1 are separate achievements, and the chart results below are tied to the dates they were reported.
Who Shaboozey is
Shaboozey is the performing name of Collins Obinna Chibueze. GRAMMY.com’s 2024 profile refers to him as Collins Chibueze, while Official Charts gives his full name in its July 9, 2024 coverage. Both sources describe the same artist. The 2024 coverage describes him as Nigerian-American and does not go into further detail about his early life, so this article does not either.
His solo work predates his breakthrough. Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going is his third album, and the 2024 profiles describe its sound as a blend of country and hip-hop.
The Beyoncé connection
Shaboozey is a featured guest on two tracks from Cowboy Carter: “SPAGHETTII” and “SWEET HONEY BUCKIIN’.” Both Official Charts and GRAMMY.com report these credits. Beyoncé is not a featured artist on “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and the Hot 100 No. 1 is not a Cowboy Carter track.

The Canadian figure is a record tie, not a U.S. result, and it was reported while the song was still charting. The UK peak describes a single high position on that chart, not a number of weeks at the top.
What “interpolation” means here
“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” interpolates J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy.” An interpolation re-creates a melodic or lyrical element of an earlier song with newly performed material. It is different from a sample, which lifts a portion of the original recording, and from a cover, which re-records the whole song. Official Charts lists the songwriters and producers for the track on its song entry.

The album and the sound
GRAMMY.com’s May 31, 2024 profile describes a range that runs from country-leaning open-road songs to an MC performance with Texas rapper BigXthaPlug. Asked about genre access, Shaboozey told GRAMMY.com: “I think we’re the generation of paint splatter!”
EMPIRE COO Nima Etminan, quoted by Billboard, said: “Artists don’t need to be put in boxes – whether it be by race, genre or eras.” The sources used for this article do not report current streaming or physical-format availability for the album.

What the figures measure
- A 1,000 percent rise in Spotify listens. EMPIRE attributed this to the attention that followed Cowboy Carter’s release, as reported by GRAMMY.com in 2024. It is a label-supplied figure, not an independent measurement, and the coverage does not state the base period it is measured against.
- Billboard’s Hot 100 tracking week of July 19–25, 2024. The Hot 100 blends U.S. streams, radio airplay, and sales. For that week, Billboard Canada reported 85.1 million radio audience impressions, 37.3 million official streams, and 15,000 sales. These are historical weekly figures for one tracking period, not current metrics.
Reading the chart claims correctly
- Hot 100 No. 1 refers to the Billboard Hot 100, a U.S. all-genre chart. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” reached No. 1 on the chart dated July 13, 2024.
- UK No. 3 refers to the UK Official Singles Chart, and its peak was reported in July 2024.
- 19 weeks at No. 1 refers to the Canadian Hot 100 and is a record tie as reported in Billboard Canada’s 2024 coverage. It is not a U.S. record.
- A chart peak is the highest position a song reaches. Weeks at No. 1 count how long it held the top spot. The two are not interchangeable.
Chart positions reported here date from 2024. Shaboozey’s results after that period are outside the scope of these sources.
