Rhys Darby plays Trelane in “Wedding Bell Blues,” the second episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3.
Who is Trelane?
Trelane is a character from the original Star Trek series. William Campbell first portrayed him in “The Squire of Gothos,” which debuted on Jan. 12, 1967. StarTrek.com’s retrospective on the episode identifies Campbell as the actor who played Trelane.

When does Rhys Darby appear?
Darby appears as Trelane in “Wedding Bell Blues,” listed as episode 2 of season 3. StarTrek.com’s season-three episode list places the story second in a 10-episode season. Paramount+’s season guide also lists Darby among the guest stars and “Wedding Bell Blues” as episode 2.
When was his role announced?
StarTrek.com announced Darby as a season-three guest star on Oct. 20, 2024, without naming his character. The site identified him as Trelane in a feature about “Wedding Bell Blues” published July 24, 2025. The casting announcement and the later Trelane feature establish the sequence.
