In that Independent interview, Garcia reflected on the gap between wanting to make music and building a career: “I thought, ‘OK, I’m going into the family business. In a May 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Garcia spoke about his past heroin and fentanyl use and described reaching a turning point in 2020. He said his mother supported him during recovery, while emphasizing that the decision to stop had to be his own: “I had to do it for myself. As much as she wanted it and as much as she asked and tried… I would like to say that I tried to [quit for her] but it had to be my own decision.”
In the same interview, Garcia described working with Michael DeLeon and the organization Steered Straight on youth substance-use education. He also said he was working on a memoir at that time; the interview does not establish whether it was later published.
