The $50,000 reward for information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance was offered by the FBI on February 5, 2026. It was not the full reward later reported: Savannah Guthrie announced a separate $1 million family reward on February 24, and ABC reported that family and law-enforcement rewards then totaled $1.2 million.
Who offered the $50,000 reward?
The FBI Phoenix Field Office announced an offer of up to $50,000 on February 5, 2026. The reward is for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. The FBI notice said the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department were investigating together.
The FBI said Guthrie was last seen at her residence in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills neighborhood on the evening of January 31, 2026. It described her as a vulnerable adult who has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medication for a heart condition.
How does the FBI reward compare with the family reward?
| Offering party | Amount | Announcement | Stated purpose |
| FBI | Up to $50,000 | February 5, 2026 | Information leading to Guthrie’s recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved, according to the FBI notice. |
| Savannah Guthrie and her family | $1 million | February 24, 2026 | Recovery of Nancy Guthrie, as reported by ABC News. |
ABC reported the combined family and law-enforcement reward total as $1.2 million on February 24, 2026. That figure is a dated combined total, not the amount of the FBI’s offer.

What has been reported about ransom notes?
On July 31, 2026, The Washington Post reported that authorities had released two earlier notes and were asking the public to help identify their writer. Officials did not state whether the communications were authentic. The first note demanded $4 million in bitcoin; the second claimed Guthrie had died. Those are statements attributed to the notes, not independently established facts about her fate. The Washington Post’s report describes their release.
On August 5, ABC reported that the sheriff’s department said releasing the notes had produced a “slight increase” in tips, but none had cracked the case at that time. A separate message that surfaced over the weekend before September 29 was deemed not credible by authorities, the Associated Press reported. Do not confuse that late-September message with the two notes released in July.
