Who is NBA YoungBoy?
Gaulden is a Louisiana rapper whose stage moniker stands for “Never Broke Again.” The Associated Press reported in May 2025 that he had four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and one Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100; those are chart totals reported at that time, not a claim about his current chart standing. Why did Trump pardon NBA YoungBoy?
Trump’s decision was reported on May 29, 2025, after two White House officials confirmed to the Associated Press that he had pardoned Gaulden the previous day. Gaulden publicly thanked Trump, saying: “I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building — as a man, as a father, and as an artist.”
Trump’s individual rationale has not been established by the available accounts. The Justice Department says a president may explain a clemency decision or remain silent; when no public explanation is given, the department does not supply one. U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Pardon Attorney It would be speculation to attribute this pardon to a political motive, personal connection, or exchange without evidence.

What legal cases were involved?
The federal cases and the separate Utah case should not be conflated. The pardon concerns federal offenses; it does not by itself erase or pardon state convictions.
| Matter | Reported outcome | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Federal gun case | Gaulden was sentenced to 23 months in prison in 2024. | Associated Press |
| Another federal gun case | In 2024, he received five years of probation and a $200,000 fine. | Associated Press |
| Utah prescription-drug fraud case | He pleaded guilty and received a $25,000 fine, with no prison sentence, according to the Los Angeles Times. | Los Angeles Times |
What does the pardon change?
According to the Associated Press, citing Gaulden’s attorney Drew Findling, the pardon ended the federal probation requirements, including drug testing. That is a case-specific effect reported by the AP; it should not be read as wiping away every legal consequence in other jurisdictions.
Rank #2
A presidential pardon does not erase a conviction from a person’s record. The Justice Department says the conviction and the pardon both remain part of the record. A pardon is also distinct from expungement, and presidential authority applies to federal offenses rather than state convictions. U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Pardon Attorney
