Her daughter is publicly known as Shai, a name Cordae disclosed shortly afterward. Osaka and Cordae are no longer a couple, she said in January 2025; the public reporting cited here does not establish details of their private family arrangements.
Who is Naomi Osaka’s daughter?
Shai is the daughter of tennis player Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae. The USTA reported Osaka’s July 2023 birth announcement but noted that the name was not officially confirmed in that post. Cordae later revealed it while dedicating a performance at the Calgary Stampede, according to BET: “My daughter Shai was just born a couple days ago, so I dedicate this performance to my baby girl Shai.”
That distinction matters: Osaka’s original announcement confirmed the birth of a daughter, while the public name disclosure was attributed to Cordae.
When was Shai born?
Shai was born in July 2023. The WTA reported that Osaka and Cordae had welcomed a baby girl that month; Osaka had confirmed in June that she was expecting a daughter. The available reports support the month and year, not an exact birthday.

What did Osaka say about becoming a mother?
In an Associated Press interview published in January 2024, Osaka said motherhood had made her more open-minded and patient. She also said she wanted to be a good role model for her daughter. These are Osaka’s reflections on her own experience, rather than claims about how parenthood affects everyone.
How did motherhood fit into Osaka’s tennis return?
Osaka returned to the tour at the 2024 Australian Open after time away following Shai’s birth. In March 2024, the WTA reported that she returned to Indian Wells with Shai. Those reports document Osaka’s career timeline; they do not provide a basis for further claims about Shai’s private life.

Are Naomi Osaka and Cordae still together?
No. Osaka said in January 2025 that she and Cordae were no longer in a relationship. The Associated Press reported her comment: “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad.” This confirms their separation as partners, but does not establish custody or other private co-parenting arrangements.

The cited reporting identifies Osaka’s daughter by the name Shai and gives her birth month and year. It does not verify a full legal name, an exact birth date, or other private biographical details. Keeping to those confirmed facts respects the distinction between public family announcements and a child’s private life.
