Naomi Biden’s husband is Peter George Heermann Neal. The couple married on November 19, 2022, in a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House, and the official announcement of the wedding gives both of their full names.
Who Peter Neal is
Peter George Heermann Neal is the husband of Naomi King Biden, the daughter of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The White House announcement of the marriage uses the couple’s full names, and a 2024 publication of the U.S. Government Publishing Office, Administration of Joseph R. Biden, Jr., 2024, refers to Naomi K. Biden Neal and her husband Peter Neal, which confirms the marriage remained in place at least through that year.

The wedding on November 19, 2022
The ceremony took place at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on the South Lawn, according to the White House announcement of the wedding. The announcement describes approximately 250 guests attending the ceremony. A luncheon followed in the State Dining Room. The approximately 250 figure is the official estimate for that event only, not a general statistic about White House weddings.
The family statement
The White House press release of November 19, 2022, attributes the following statement to President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden: “Now, we are filled with pride to see her choose Peter as her husband and we’re honored to welcome him to our family.” The release is preserved by The American Presidency Project. This is the only direct public statement from the family about the marriage in the sources available for this article.

What was reported about Neal’s career in 2022
A Vogue profile by Chloe Malle, published November 22, 2022, described Neal as a lawyer at Georgetown Law Center on National Security and described Naomi Biden as a lawyer at the firm Arnold & Porter. These are roles as they were described at the time of the 2022 profile. Neither source confirms whether either role is current in 2026, so readers should treat them as the position as of late 2022.
Background from the 2022 Vogue profile
The same Vogue profile reports that Neal had interned at the Obama White House and had worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. It also recounts that Biden contacted Neal while he was returning by train to Washington after an internship, and that he later proposed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. These details come from the couple’s own account as reported in the profile and have not been independently verified by other published sources.
Where the wedding fits in White House history
The White House Historical Association’s backgrounder on White House weddings separates two categories. Weddings hosted at the White House itself are counted separately from weddings held elsewhere that were followed by a White House reception. The Biden–Neal ceremony appears in the hosted category.
| Category | Count documented by the White House Historical Association | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Weddings hosted by a president and/or first lady | 19 | Ceremonies held at the White House, including the Biden–Neal wedding on November 19, 2022 |
| Off-site weddings followed by a White House reception | 4 | Ceremonies held elsewhere, with the reception at the White House |
What the public record does not establish
The published sources available for this article cover the wedding, the marriage’s existence as of 2024, and Neal’s roles as described in 2022. They do not establish his current employment, any public activity since 2022, or additional details about his private life. Anything beyond the White House announcement, the 2024 government reference, and the 2022 Vogue profile should be checked against a newer, dated source before it is repeated.
