Montia Sabbag is the woman publicly identified in 2017 as appearing with Kevin Hart in a secretly recorded video. She acknowledged having a relationship with Hart, but said she had nothing to do with the recordings or an extortion attempt. Hart’s representatives described an alleged extortion attempt; that account was not, by itself, a court finding.

Who is Montia Sabbag?

Sabbag became publicly known in September 2017, when news reports identified her as the woman in a video involving comedian Kevin Hart. At a press conference on September 20, she acknowledged a relationship with Hart and rejected claims that she had participated in recording or extorting him. Her attorney, Lisa Bloom, also said Sabbag had no part in an alleged extortion plot and characterized her as a victim of the recording. CBS Los Angeles reported on Sabbag’s press conference and Bloom’s statements.

Sabbag said, “I am not an extortionist,” and, “I had nothing to do with these recordings.” Those were her statements at the press conference, not findings by a court. CBS Los Angeles

What did Kevin Hart say?

Hart posted an apology video after reports about the recording emerged. In a statement quoted by The Washington Post, he said: “I made a bad error in judgement and put myself in an environment where only bad things can happen, and they did.” His representative said an extortion attempt had been made and that law enforcement was involved. Those were Hart’s and his representative’s public statements; they should not be confused with a court determination about who recorded or circulated the video. The Washington Post reported on Hart’s apology and the representative’s account.

What happened in the legal cases?

The criminal matter, Sabbag’s civil claims, and a later suit brought by Jonathan “J.T.” Jackson were separate proceedings. Their reported outcomes do not establish the truth of allegations outside the particular case or claim.

Proceeding What the cited reporting says Reported outcome or status
Criminal case involving Jackson A 2024 court filing recounts that Jackson was charged in 2018 in connection with alleged extortion. The filing says the criminal extortion charges were dropped. 2024 court filing
Sabbag’s civil case against Hart and Jackson The 2024 filing recounts a civil case brought by Sabbag against Hart and Jackson. The filing says it was dismissed without prejudice in 2022. A dismissal without prejudice is a procedural disposition and is not a ruling that the underlying allegations were true or false. 2024 court filing
Sabbag’s later state-court suit A news report says the suit was dismissed at a June 2023 status conference; it reports that neither Sabbag nor her attorney appeared. Reported dismissed without prejudice. The report does not establish a decision on the merits. NBC Los Angeles report
Jackson’s later suit against Hart In July 2024, Jackson filed a separate suit alleging that Hart violated a 2021 settlement agreement. The allegation belongs to Jackson’s suit and is not presented as an adjudicated fact. The report said Hart’s representatives did not respond to a request for comment. The Washington Post report

Was Montia Sabbag involved in the extortion attempt?

Sabbag denied involvement in both the recordings and an extortion attempt. Bloom likewise said her client had no part in the alleged plot. Hart’s representative said there had been an extortion attempt, and a later court filing recounts criminal charges against Jackson that were dropped. The materials cited here do not establish that Sabbag was involved; her public denial and the procedural history should not be recast as a finding of guilt or innocence in any separate allegation.
