What did Kylian Mbappé’s father do?
Wilfried worked in youth football at AS Bondy, coaching local teams and helping educate young players. BBC Sport reported in 2018 that he had given the club 25 years of service, attributing that figure to AS Bondy president Atmane Airouche. A 2022 L’Équipe profile described him as an educator at the club for more than twenty years. Those are compatible descriptions published at different times, not competing accounts of his role.
How did he coach Kylian at AS Bondy?
Kylian grew up in Bondy, near Paris, and was involved with the local club where his father coached. Wilfried told L’Équipe that it took about a year and a half for other children at the club to realize Kylian was his son: Kylian did not call him “papa” there. In the anecdote, when Kylian finally did, the other children told him Wilfrid could not be his father. The account illustrates how Wilfried’s role at the club was as a coach, not just as Kylian’s parent.

What was Kylian’s early football path?
AS Bondy was part of Kylian’s early development, alongside his time at Clairefontaine and his later move to Monaco’s academy. A Le Monde retrospective describes that progression and the attention he drew from scouts: Le Monde’s retrospective. This background helps explain the setting in which Wilfried coached him, without making his father the sole explanation for Kylian’s career.

A 2026 article from the Essonne district of the French Football Federation summarizes Wilfried’s comments as rejecting the idea of a predefined formula for Kylian’s success. It is a summary of his remarks, not a direct quotation: The district federation article.
