Jack Black’s wife is Tanya Haden, a cellist, vocalist, artist and musician. She is also the daughter of jazz bassist Charlie Haden and performs with her sisters in The Haden Triplets. Black and Haden began dating in 2005 and married in Big Sur in 2006.

A musical connection to Charlie Haden
Her father was jazz bassist Charlie Haden. Jack Black has described preparing to meet him by listening to his albums and learning about jazz. In an interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air, Black recalled: “I kind of gave myself a crash course in jazz before I asked for her hand because I wanted him to think I was worthy.”

Black also participated in Charlie Haden’s family recording project, singing “Old Joe Clark.” The Fresh Air interview noted Charlie Haden’s positive impression of Black’s love for Tanya and his character.
How did Jack Black and Tanya Haden meet?
Black and Haden attended Crossroads in Santa Monica, but they were not high-school sweethearts. Black later said he was too shy to date or even speak with her at school. Their courtship began years later, in 2005, as recounted in Parade’s 2015 interview with Black.

When did they marry?
Black and Haden married in Big Sur in 2006. A contemporaneous Associated Press report carried by CBS described the wedding as an elopement; Black also recalled the year and location in the later Parade interview. CBS’s report and Parade’s interview document the marriage.
Do Jack Black and Tanya Haden have children?
Public reports identify two sons: Samuel, born in 2006, and Thomas David, born in 2008. Those are the relevant publicly documented details; the family’s private life does not need further speculation.

What is known about their relationship now?
A 2026 Miami Herald account reported that Black marked the couple’s twentieth anniversary in a public post. That is a dated public anniversary reference; it does not, on its own, establish further details about their private relationship.
