What is The Accident about?
Netflix describes Accidente, released internationally under the English title The Accident, as a drama in which a celebration turns tragic for four families. The story follows the fallout as people grapple with grief, guilt, resentment and revenge. Netflix credits Leonardo Padrón as creator, Gracia Querejeta and Klych López as season-one directors, and Mar Abierto Productions as producer.
The first season premiered August 21, 2024. In a November 2025 announcement, Netflix said it debuted at number one on its global Top 10 non-English-language series chart and recorded more than 10.4 million views over its premiere week. That is a Netflix-reported figure, not an independently audited audience count. The announcement also names Querejeta and Carlos Villegas as season-two directors. Netflix’s announcement contains the season-two and audience details; its 2024 series announcement gives the original premise and first-season credits.
