Hilary Duff’s husband is Matthew Koma, a musician, songwriter, and record producer. The couple met while working on Duff’s 2015 album Breathe In. Breathe Out., married in December 2019, and have three children together. Koma later worked with Duff again on her 2026 album Luck… or something.
How Duff and Koma met
Duff and Koma first crossed paths during the making of Breathe In. Breathe Out. in 2015. In Vogue’s wedding feature, Duff recalls that Koma had written and produced demos that reached her label, and that a lunch meeting turned into long conversations about music, a lot of teasing, and a friendship. Vogue describes the early relationship as on and off before it settled into something steady.
The engagement and December 2019 wedding
The couple became engaged in May 2019. They married in December of that year. Vogue dates the ceremony to December 21, 2019, held in the front yard of their home in Los Angeles. Vogue’s account of the day, and of Duff’s reasons for keeping the event small and personal, is the most detailed public record of the wedding; the couple have not released a wider guest list or itemized details.
Their children
Duff and Koma have three children together. Duff also has an older son from her marriage to former NHL player Mike Comrie, so the household includes four children in total. The table below separates the two families.

Who Matthew Koma is
Koma is a musician, songwriter, and record producer. Atlantic Records, the label releasing Duff’s recent work, describes him as a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer whose credits include Bruce Springsteen and Britney Spears. The same label biography names him as Duff’s husband and as a collaborator on her latest album. Beyond those credits, the public record offers little detail on his career, so readers looking for a full discography should check his own catalogue or the label’s artist pages.

Working together on Luck… or something
Their partnership extends into the studio. Atlantic Records describes Luck… or something as Duff’s sixth studio LP and credits Koma and Brian Phillips as co-producers. CBS News also reports that Duff met Koma while making her 2015 album and that her 2026 record was created with her husband.
In an NPR interview with Juana Summers, Duff explained why working with Koma felt easy. She said he had “a front-row seat” to her life over roughly the past decade, and that this familiarity let her be unusually open in the studio. The Atlantic Records biography similarly says Duff felt free to be blunt with her husband in the studio and trusted him to understand what she meant.
