She is best known in documentary circles for short films that focus on people and history, including the documentary short Mr. Ewing. The sources available on her are limited, so this profile sticks to what they establish and dates each career detail.
Who she is
The sisters are twins. MY HERO Project, which profiled the Gorman family in its “MY HERO Celebrates Mother and Daughter Heroes” feature, calls Gabrielle Amanda’s twin sister and gives their mother, Joan Wicks, the space to describe the family. Amanda herself identifies Gabrielle as her twin in her Story Collider essay, which first aired on May 18, 2018.
The family background is one of the few personal details the sources agree on. MY HERO reports that the sisters attended New Roads School in Santa Monica. Joan Wicks, quoted in the same profile, put it this way: “Raising my children was the greatest joy and honor of my life.”
Education
MY HERO states that Gabrielle graduated from UCLA with a degree in Film Studies. Its passage does not give a year. A January 27, 2021 BET profile, “Poet Amanda Gorman’s Twin Sister Is Also A Creative Genius,” reported that she graduated from UCLA’s School of Film and Television in 2020. The two accounts agree on the degree area; the 2020 date comes from BET alone.

Her filmmaking
Her work is the part of her profile most relevant to documentary readers, and the sources describe it in three projects.
Dear America (2015)
Her short film Dear America received Student Honoree recognition at the 2015 MY HERO International Film Festival, according to MY HERO’s profile of Amanda Gorman. BET later reported that the film was featured in a PBS special. That PBS mention appears only in BET’s 2021 reporting, so treat it as a secondhand claim rather than an independently confirmed screening history.
Rank #2
Mr. Ewing (2019)
BET reported that Gabrielle directed Mr. Ewing, a short documentary in 2019 about a 99-year-old Black teacher and World War II veteran. This is the clearest documentary credit in the available reporting. BET’s account is the only source for it, and the sources do not say where the film has been shown.
Writing and producing for social change
MY HERO describes her as a writer, director and producer who creates art for social change. That is a description of her approach, not a list of specific credits, so it should not be read as a complete filmography.

The sisters have collaborated. In a Junior High Los Angeles interview, Gabrielle referred to their “Vote for the Future” PSA. She also said that creatively they are often on a similar wavelength, but that they now want to explore their voices separately:
“Creatively we are oftentimes on a similar wavelength, but I think right now we really want to explore our voices separately.”

- Vogue Korea Magazine 2026 July ROSE (B ver.)
She described a practical problem with being known as Amanda’s sister. People may attach conditions to a project, such as wanting Amanda to take part, and she said she wants both sisters’ work judged on its own terms: “I feel like we both deserve to be judged separately and have our work perceived individually.”
Amanda’s own essay points to the same difference in their work. She wrote, “What my sister doesn’t get in sound she makes up by thinking in motion,” and linked that visual thinking to Gabrielle’s directing.

What the sources do not establish
- No current employer, project list or distribution history for Gabrielle appears in the available reporting.
- No birth date is given in the sources reviewed.
- The most recent dated reporting is from January 2021. Anything she has made since then is not covered here.
For readers who want to see her films, the most useful next step is to search her name together with the titles above in film festival listings or with the PBS and MY HERO organizations that have featured her work.
