Perth professional surfer and artist Felicity “Flick” Palmateer joined Australian Survivor: Brains v Brawn in 2021. Who is Felicity Palmateer?
PerthNow identified Palmateer as a professional surfer and artist, and referred to her as Flick. In an interview published before the season launch, she said she had not previously considered reality television, but Survivor was the one show she wanted to do: “I’ve never thought about doing any sort of reality TV , the only show I’ve ever wanted to is Survivor so when the opportunity came up to cast for the show I jumped on it,”

What was the setting for Brains v Brawn?
When PerthNow published its story, the season was scheduled to launch on 18 July 2021. The report said pandemic-related location changes had moved production from the show’s usual Fiji and Samoa locations to north-west Queensland.

Palmateer described the outback location in her interview as “really far from an ocean,” contrasting it with her life as a surfer. She also spoke of cold nights, very hot days, dust and difficult challenges. Her remark that “everything in Australia wants to kill you” was an interview reaction to the setting, not a literal description of Australian wildlife or a measured assessment of danger.

Skin Deep was Palmateer’s nude-surfing art project. The 2021 profile described it as a four-year passion project released in December 2020, featuring her surfing nude in locations in Western Australia and around the world. Palmateer connected surfing with a sense of freedom; the project brought that idea into her artistic work.
