When did Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery get married?
The couple married in 2007. Parade reports that their ceremony took place at New York City Hall and was officiated by then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Parade’s account and ABC News’ reporting both give 2007 as the marriage year.
How did they meet?
Pompeo and Ivery have said they met at a grocery store in Los Angeles in 2003. They reportedly discovered they had grown up near one another in Boston. Pompeo has publicly described Ivery as supportive of her ambition. In a statement Vogue attributes to an interview with People in 2018, she said, “My husband is not at all intimidated by my drive or my bossiness.”
She has also discussed his adjustment to her romantic scenes on Grey’s Anatomy. ABC News quoted Pompeo saying of the show’s early intimate scenes, “Poor guy had no idea what he was getting into.” Those comments are Pompeo’s account of the experience, rather than an outside assessment of the couple’s private life.
