Who is Christine Marinoni?
Christine Marinoni is known publicly for her education advocacy, LGBTQ+ rights work, and partnership with actor and activist Cynthia Nixon. Nixon referred to Marinoni as her wife in an April 2026 interview with Boston.com.

Marinoni’s public work has included community organizing. In a 2018 interview with City & State New York, she recalled opening a lesbian coffee shop and bar in Park Slope, Brooklyn, in 1995, shortly after coming out. She also described organizing in response to a hate crime affecting a bartender and after the murder of Matthew Shepard.
A 2025 profile in The Advocate notes that Marinoni owned the Brooklyn pub Rising from 1996 to 2003 and describes her as an education and LGBTQ+ rights activist. These accounts establish her advocacy background, but do not establish a current job title.

How did Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni meet?
Nixon and Marinoni met in 2001 while working on a campaign focused on school issues. They became friends first and later began dating. Nixon has said she had not previously experienced attraction to a woman and described falling in love with Marinoni as a new experience; that is Nixon’s account of her own experience, not a label to infer for her.
When did they get married?
The couple married in 2012, after New York legalized same-sex marriage. In a 2012 interview with ELLE, Nixon said she had been engaged for three years while waiting for marriage equality. She also credited Marinoni with handling most of the wedding details.
Do Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni have children?
They have one son together, Max, who was 19 months old when they married in 2012. Nixon also has two older children, Samantha and Charles, from her earlier relationship with photographer Danny Mozes. A 2012 wedding account named all three children.

In The Advocate’s 2025 profile, Nixon described their relationship as both domestic and politically engaged: “It is a very big love. It’s just a very full partnership. And certainly, it’s a very domestic partnership, but we’re talking politics every day. Not all day, but every day.”
