He is an original character created for the television series rather than a figure from J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. The show assigns him to watch over the people of the Southlands, where he becomes an outsider and falls for Bronwyn.
Who Arondir is in the series
The official character description from About Amazon UK, the streaming service’s cast guide, puts the core identity in one sentence:
“Arondir, played by Ismael Cruz Córdova, is a Silvan Elf tasked with watching over the people of the Southlands.” (About Amazon UK, character guide)
Silvan Elves are the woodland-dwelling Elves of Middle-earth, and the series uses Arondir as one of the Elves who stay close to human communities rather than remaining in their own realms. That placement drives most of his storyline.

His role in the Southlands
Arondir’s job is watchkeeping. The series guide frames the assignment within a difficult history: the Elves keep watch over Southlanders whom they regard as having sided with evil in the past. Three elements of his story follow from that setup:
- An assigned guardian. He is sent to watch over the Southlands rather than to govern or fight alongside them, which keeps him at a distance from the people he is protecting.
- An outsider in both communities. The guide describes him as an outsider, and his position among the Southlanders is shaped by the suspicion their past creates.
- A relationship with Bronwyn. The guide says he falls for Bronwyn, a Southlander and a dissenting voice among her own people. Their relationship is presented as one that crosses the divide the Elves’ mission has created.
The political framing of the Elves and Southlanders comes from the series guide. It describes the show’s storytelling choices and is not a general statement about Tolkien’s writing.

Is Arondir in Tolkien’s books?
No. Arondir does not appear in Tolkien’s published books. TV Insider, in a June 10, 2023 interview with the show’s stars, describes him as one of the characters made specifically for the series. The Los Angeles Times, in a June 12, 2023 article on the cast’s experience playing Elves, calls him “a character not in the books.”
The practical distinction is this: the Elves, Southlanders and the wider setting draw on Tolkien’s world, while Arondir himself is an addition by the show’s creators. Because the reporting cited here addresses his origin and not the detailed lore around him, it does not support a deeper comparison of how Arondir fits within Tolkien’s chronology or histories.

Who plays Arondir and how he was cast
Ismael Cruz Córdova plays Arondir. In a June 2023 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Córdova said that representation was one of the reasons he fought for the role. He also described receiving racist abuse and threats during the casting process. The article reports that casting lasted seven months, a figure that is specific to the Los Angeles Times report and not a general claim about the production.
Those details concern the actor’s experience of the casting process. They do not describe the character’s personality or storyline.

Season 3 and what is confirmed
Córdova is among the cast members who appear in a Tea with Tolkien interview dated August 8, 2026, in which the cast and showrunners discuss Season 3. GamesRadar reports that he is among the returning cast and gives November 11 as the Season 3 premiere date.
Two cautions apply. First, the premiere date comes from GamesRadar’s reporting and can change, so check it against Prime Video’s own listings before planning around it. Second, the available reporting confirms Córdova’s return but does not establish what Arondir will do in Season 3, so any specific plot expectation for him is speculation.
