The rebellion ended in defeat and her death, but she endured in elven memory as a symbol of resistance. In Blood of Elves, Geralt tells Ciri her story among the ruins of Shaerrawedd.
Who was Aelirenn?
Aelirenn is a remembered figure in Witcher lore, not a central viewpoint character. Her story appears in Blood of Elves and is echoed in game material and other Witcher media. She is also known as Elirena, while “the White Rose of Shaerrawedd” connects her name to the ruined elven palace and the roses growing there. Witcher Wiki: Aelirenn
What happened at Shaerrawedd?
Aelirenn led young elves into battle against humans despite warnings from the elders that the revolt could not succeed. The uprising ended with the deaths of her followers and Aelirenn. The ruins of Shaerrawedd, once an elven palace, became the setting through which the loss is remembered. Witcher Wiki: Shaerrawedd
In Blood of Elves, Geralt recounts the story to Ciri while they are at Shaerrawedd. The scene makes the ruined palace more than a backdrop: it gives Ciri a place to consider the consequences of the revolt and the weight of the past. Blood of Elves
Why does Aelirenn matter to the elves?
Her legacy holds two truths together: the rebellion was a devastating military defeat, yet Aelirenn became an enduring emblem of resistance. The game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings makes that legacy explicit. Its in-game journal says that she “remains a symbol of fighting for freedom to this day,” and that elven insurgents go into battle invoking her name. This is the journal’s account, not a quotation from Sapkowski’s novel. Witcher Wiki: The Life and Death of the White Rose
When did Aelirenn’s revolt take place?
The game reference places the events more than two hundred years before the events of Blood of Elves. The available accounts do not establish a consistent precise year, so the safest description is simply that the revolt happened centuries before Geralt tells Ciri the story.

Is Aelirenn portrayed the same way in every Witcher adaptation?
Reference material lists Aelirenn as a mention in Netflix’s The Witcher, but that alone does not establish a detailed comparison with the novels or games. The clearest account for readers is Geralt’s story in Blood of Elves; the game’s journal provides a separate, related expression of her later symbolic importance.
