What each relationship shows
Jake Gyllenhaal
Gyllenhaal is the earliest of the named relationships and the one with the most direct attribution. The Guardian’s 2004 report on the split was published while the couple’s separation was news, and it relied on confirmation from Gyllenhaal’s publicist. Eleven years later, Dunst herself named him in the Guardian’s 2015 interview, which is the strongest primary acknowledgment in the record.

Johnny Borrell
Dunst also named Borrell as an ex-boyfriend in the 2015 Guardian interview. The only duration figure comes from Us Weekly, which described the relationship as lasting seven months in 2007. Readers should treat that as a press account rather than a verified timeline, because no source in this record pins down a start or end date.
Garrett Hedlund
Hedlund’s relationship with Dunst was public for several years. The 2015 Guardian profile called him her boyfriend, and Us Weekly’s April 2016 report on the breakup described more than four years together. Those two accounts together establish that the relationship was acknowledged publicly and ended by 2016, but they do not give a precise end date.

Jesse Plemons
Plemons is the only partner in this list who is documented as her husband. Dunst met him while they were filming Fargo, and she has described the early stages of the relationship in a New York Times interview, as reproduced by ELLE:
“We didn’t get together until the following March, when we’d had the time to realize how much we missed each other and how much we wanted to be in each others’ lives.”
