Nick Pauley performed Deadpool’s “Bye Bye Bye” dance in Deadpool & Wolverine—not Ryan Reynolds. The filmmakers put Pauley in the Deadpool suit, filmed his live-action performance on blue screen, then integrated it into a stylized 3D setting. Reynolds reportedly praised the dance double and joked about how viewers could tell it was not him.
Who is the “Bye Bye Bye” dancer?
The dancer behind the masked Deadpool routine is Nick Pauley, a dancer and choreographer. He performed in the Deadpool suit for the film’s opening sequence. Ryan Reynolds plays Deadpool, but Pauley performed the dance discussed here.

That distinction answers the question viewers raised after the scene: the character is Deadpool, but the dance performance was Pauley’s.
How the dance scene was made
Creative director John Likens described the idea as a fight scene in which Deadpool, aware that the action was set to “Bye Bye Bye,” breaks into the song’s recognizable choreography while fighting. Likens first learned the routine from videos and recorded a version of the concept in a motion-capture suit. After the idea was approved, the production hired Pauley to perform it in the Deadpool suit on blue screen. The team then composited that live-action performance into a stylized 3D environment and added custom camera moves. Likens’s account of the concept and visual-effects process includes director Shawn Levy’s reaction to the pitch: “It’s a one in a million idea and you nailed it!”

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
The sequence appears in the film’s opening credits and uses *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” In an interview about the film’s action opening, stunt coordinator and second-unit director George Cottle also discussed the song choice and how it changed during development. The Credits’ interview with Cottle provides that production context.

Yahoo Entertainment reported on Reynolds’s praise, while a Japanese-language report also identified Pauley and relayed the joke.

The Japanese report renders the line roughly as: “If the person dancing looks like he doesn’t have arthritis, that’s him.” That is a translated rendering, not a verified English transcript of Reynolds’s full remarks. The exact wording and interview context of his praise are therefore best left to the reports rather than expanded into a direct English quotation.
