Who are the Salem Seven in Marvel Comics?
In the comics, the Salem Seven are Nicholas Scratch’s children, associated with the magical community of New Salem. They oppose Agatha Harkness, whose history with Scratch and the community sets up the group’s conflict with her and the Fantastic Four. Marvel’s Agatha Harkness reading guide points readers to the original New Salem story in Fantastic Four (1961) #185–186.

How are they connected to Nicholas Scratch and New Salem?
Agatha had left New Salem, and Scratch became its leader. His opposition to her brings the Salem Seven into the Fantastic Four story. Marvel’s Shuma-Gorath character history also describes Scratch presenting the Fantastic Four and his own children, the Salem Seven, as sacrifices to the entity, which sought to consume Earth.
What powers do the Salem Seven have?
The official Marvel histories establish the group as magic-based antagonists, but they do not provide a complete, sourced member-by-member list of names and powers. A reliable summary is that they use magic and are bound to New Salem’s magical conflict—not that every member has a particular transformation, elemental ability, or individual strength. Assigning such powers to each one would require evidence from the relevant comics panels or another direct official reference.

What happens in their story with Wanda and Vision?
The Salem Seven return in Vision and the Scarlet Witch (1985) #3, when Wanda Maximoff and Vision visit New Salem and become caught in a battle with the group. Marvel’s account of Agatha Harkness singles out Vertigo’s role in drawing in the community’s magical energies. The resulting crisis devastates the town, and Wanda attempts to redirect the excess energy.
Where should you start reading?
- Start with the original New Salem conflict: Read Fantastic Four (1961) #185–186 for Scratch, Agatha, and the community’s confrontation with the Fantastic Four.
- Continue with Wanda and Vision: Read Vision and the Scarlet Witch (1985) #3 for the Salem Seven’s later encounter with the couple and the magical-energy crisis.
Marvel’s reading guide and Agatha history identify these issues as key parts of the group’s original-continuity story. Issue availability can vary by retailer or reading service.
How does the Ultimate Universe version differ?
Ultimate Fantastic Four Vol. 11: Salem’s Seven is a separate Ultimate Universe story, not a collection of the original Earth-616 New Salem arc. Marvel lists the trade paperback as collecting Ultimate Fantastic Four (2003) #54–57, with a publication date of October 29, 2008. It is a useful option if you want the alternate-continuity take, but it is not the starting point for Scratch’s original conflict with Agatha.

No. Marvel identifies Agatha All Along as a Marvel Television series released in 2024. Disney’s production feature describes the show’s traveling party as including Jennifer Kale, a potions witch; Alice Wu-Gulliver, a protection witch; Lilia Calderu, a divination witch; Rio Vidal, the Green Witch; and Sharon Davis, who is not a witch. Those are roles and characters in the live-action series, not a comics powers roster for the Salem Seven.
