Brockhampton’s best-known vocal lineup is Kevin Abstract, Ameer Vann, Matt Champion, Merlyn Wood, Dom McLennon, Joba and Bearface. The wider collective also included producer-members and people working in visual, web and photographic roles, so any headcount depends on whether you count only the performers. The sections below separate those groups and explain why different sources give different lists.
The core vocal lineup
Brockhampton began as an open call. In 2010, Kevin Abstract posted a request for band members on an online Kanye West fan forum, and the initial collective was called AliveSinceForever, according to The Guardian and Pitchfork. The group later adopted the Brockhampton name, a change The Guardian places by the end of 2014.

- Kevin Abstract is the founder and central figure. Both the FADER’s 2017 profile and later retrospective coverage treat him as the group’s anchor.
- Ameer Vann was one of the founding performers. He is the only founding vocalist whose departure is covered in detail below.
- Matt Champion, Merlyn Wood, Dom McLennon, Joba and Bearface are the other performers associated with the core lineup. The Guardian’s account of the group’s development names Joba, Champion, Wood, McLennon and Bearface, and Pitchfork’s retrospective identifies the same vocalists.
Producers and creative collaborators
Brockhampton’s output blended performance, production, visual direction and digital work. In its 2017 profile, The FADER recorded members describing their own roles across music, production, web, photography and creative direction. The Los Angeles Times, in a 2021 profile, distinguished eight musical members from additional members who handled nonmusical work. The table below lists the wider names that appear in that reporting.
| Name | Category | Role as described | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Romil Hemnani | Producer-member | Producer | Los Angeles Times (2021); Pitchfork retrospective |
| Jabari Manwa | Producer-member | Producer | Los Angeles Times (2021); Pitchfork retrospective |
| Kiko Merley | Producer-member | Producer | Los Angeles Times (2021); Pitchfork retrospective |
| Henock Sileshi (HK) | Creative collaborator | Creative, web or photographic work; individual role not stated | Los Angeles Times (2021); FADER (2017) |
| Robert Ontenient | Creative collaborator | Creative, web or photographic work; individual role not stated | Los Angeles Times (2021); FADER (2017) |
| Jon Nunes | Creative collaborator | Creative, web or photographic work; individual role not stated | Los Angeles Times (2021); FADER (2017) |
| Ashlan Grey | Creative collaborator | Creative, web or photographic work; individual role not stated | Los Angeles Times (2021); FADER (2017) |
These categories overlap. A producer can also appear in a credits list as a writer, and a creative collaborator may have contributed to a visual project without appearing on a track credit. Decide what you mean by “member” before comparing counts.

Why different lists name different people
Most disagreements come from three variables: the date of the source, the scope of the roster, and whether the source is a profile written while the group was active or a retrospective written later.
| Source | Date | Roster scope | Framing |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Guardian | Date not stated in the reporting reviewed | Vocalists and the name change from AliveSinceForever | Account of formation and early lineup |
| The FADER | 2017 | Members describing their own roles across music, production, web, photography and creative direction | Profile-era, self-described roles |
| Los Angeles Times | 2021 | Eight musical members plus additional nonmusical members | Profile-era, split between musical and nonmusical work |
| Pitchfork | Date not stated in the reporting reviewed | Vocalists, producers and the Saturation trilogy era | Retrospective |
A list that names only the seven vocalists will be shorter than a profile that counts producers and visual collaborators. Neither is wrong; they measure different things.

Timeline of membership and milestones
- 2010: Kevin Abstract posts a call for members on an online Kanye West fan forum. The initial collective is called AliveSinceForever.
- By the end of 2014: The group adopts the Brockhampton name.
- 2017: The group releases the Saturation trilogy, three albums that mark its rise to prominence.
- 2018: Ameer Vann leaves the group. The circumstances are covered in the section below.
- 2022: The group announces an indefinite hiatus after its final Coachella performances.
Ameer Vann’s departure
Ameer Vann left Brockhampton in 2018 following sexual misconduct allegations that were reported at the time. Those are allegations, not adjudicated findings, and the reporting cited here does not present them as proven. Readers who want the full context should consult the original news coverage from 2018 rather than relying on summaries, including this one.

The most recent dated reporting establishes that Brockhampton announced an indefinite hiatus in 2022. We did not find a dated source announcing a reunion, a new album or a return to performing, so the group should be treated as inactive unless a newer announcement appears. Coverage of individual members’ solo work is not covered by the sources used here, so this article does not describe it.

Reading roster claims carefully
- When a source gives a headcount, check whether it counts performers only or the broader creative team.
- Check the year. A 2017 profile and a retrospective written later can give different pictures of the same group.
- Treat the Vann allegations as allegations unless a source reports a formal finding.
