Scottie Scheffler’s parents are Scott and Diane Scheffler. Published accounts describe Diane as the family’s financial provider and Scott as the stay-at-home parent while she worked. Scottie has said they supported his interests without pushing him into golf, giving him room to take responsibility for his own practice and ambitions.
Who are Scottie Scheffler’s parents?
Scott and Diane Scheffler raised Scottie and his three sisters. Scottie has described his childhood as one shaped by two parents who loved their children, saying at a 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson media availability: “I was fortunate to grow up in a home with two parents that loved all of us very dearly.”
PGA TOUR’s 2023 Mother’s Day report recounts Scottie’s description of the family’s roles: Diane worked in a demanding job and financially supported the household, while Scott took on stay-at-home parenting duties. Scottie said his mother worked hard to support his golf travel as well as his sisters’ pursuits.
How did the family move to Dallas?
Scottie was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and raised in the Dallas area. The PGA TOUR player profile says his family had been in Dallas since he was six. An Associated Press account published in 2025 also places the move when Scottie was six, saying Diane took a senior job at a Dallas law firm. The accounts agree on the broad timing and destination; the job description here reflects the AP report.

How did Scottie first get into golf?
Scott helped introduce Scottie to golf when he was young. The PGA TOUR profile recalls that Scott took him onto a New Jersey golf course while Scottie’s older sister Callie was at nearby swim practice. The AP’s 2025 account says the family later joined Royal Oaks to support his development after an initial visit with coach Randy Smith; Scottie recalled that his parents borrowed money for the membership. The AP does not state the amount.
These details point to practical support—early access to a course, coaching, and a place to play—rather than a claim that Scott or Diane mapped out a professional career for their son.

Did Scottie Scheffler’s parents push him to play golf?
Scottie has said they did not. In comments reported by GOLF.com in May 2026, he recalled that his parents dropped him off with coach Randy Smith and let him practice on his own. He also said his mother did not ask about his tournament scores unless he chose to tell her: “She never asked me what I shot.”
Scottie also recounted a junior qualifier story from when he was 12. According to his recollection, Scott first told him he could not play the main event that week, then let him enter after he qualified. Scottie said he finished fifth and became fully exempt. The episode is best understood as Scottie’s account of a specific moment, not proof that his parents never set limits.
