Drake Maye’s parents are Mark and Aimee Maye. Mark played quarterback for the University of North Carolina football team from 1983 to 1988, and Aimee also attended UNC. Their Carolina ties run through the family: Drake is the youngest of four brothers, several of whom played college sports.
Who are Mark and Aimee Maye?
The New England Patriots’ Drake Maye roster biography identifies Mark and Aimee as his parents. It records Mark’s UNC football career from 1983–88 and says Aimee attended the university.
A 2017 UNC Athletics family profile describes Aimee, then identified by her maiden name, Sockwell, as a UNC graduate and a former basketball standout at West Charlotte High School. The profile also places the family among the supporters regularly cheering on their sons’ teams.
How sports connect the Maye family
Drake is the youngest of four brothers. The family’s college-sports history spans football, basketball and baseball, though the brothers’ achievements belong to them—not to their parents.

What Drake has said about his family
At his 2024 draft introduction, Drake acknowledged the people who had supported him: “This is my squad. If you’re getting me, you’re getting them,” the Patriots quoted him as saying in their account of his path from local standout to Foxborough.
In the Patriots’ April 25, 2024 draft press-conference transcript, Drake said his parents, three older brothers, longtime girlfriend, friends and family were with him in Detroit around the draft. His remarks and the family’s long-standing UNC connections help explain why the Mayes’ story is often told through both football and the broader family’s college-sports ties.
