49 Winchester are a six-piece band from Castlewood, Virginia, whose growing profile comes after years of recording and touring—not an overnight breakthrough. Their music draws on Appalachian storytelling alongside country, rock and folk, and their path runs from early independent albums to the 2026 release Change of Plans and major-tour support dates.
Who are 49 Winchester?
49 Winchester formed in Castlewood, in Virginia’s Appalachian region. Childhood friends Isaac Gibson and Chase Chafin started the group; its current six-member lineup brings together:
- Isaac Gibson — vocals and guitar
- Bus Shelton — lead guitar
- Chase Chafin — bass
- Noah Patrick — pedal steel
- Tim Hall — keys
- Justin Louthian — drums
The band’s official biography traces its origins and describes its sound through Appalachian storytelling and country, rock and folk influences. These are useful descriptions of the group’s identity, not strict genre boundaries.
What kind of music do they play?
Place is central to how 49 Winchester presents its music. The band’s Bandcamp page calls its style “Alt-country soul from the heart of Appalachia in Russell County, VA” and connects its rock and roll to mountain-music roots. MCA’s description of the group’s current direction similarly emphasizes Appalachian grit and a reflective perspective.

MCA announced on February 6, 2026, that it would arrive May 15, alongside the song “Pardon Me.” The band’s biography says the album was recorded in eight days with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why is 49 Winchester gaining attention now?
The “hot new band” framing is a description of rising attention, not a verified chart designation. The more concrete explanation is the combination of a growing album catalog and sustained road work. MCA said 49 Winchester was set to support Eric Church and Tim McGraw on tour in 2026. Separately, the band’s own store describes earlier sold-out US tours and European arena dates opening for Luke Combs. These refer to different tours and time periods; neither source provides a chart position or sales figure.

Low string action helps reduce finger fatigue for easier playing and improved comfort while learning. Note: New strings may arrive out of tune, which is normal. As the strings stretch with use, the guitar will hold tuning better over time.
For a band that began in a small Appalachian community, the contrast between home and the road is part of its story. Its larger stages reflect accumulated touring as well as the appeal of a sound rooted in a specific place.
