The White House defended its immigration-enforcement message after Sabrina Carpenter objected to a video using her song “Juno.” The White House posted the clip on December 1, 2025; Carpenter criticized it the next day, and spokeswoman Abigail Jackson answered with a defense of deportations and an attack on people defending those shown. The episode raises a separate question about music permissions, but the contemporaneous reports do not establish whether the use was licensed or legally unauthorized.

What happened in the White House video

The White House shared the ICE-related video on Monday, December 1, 2025, according to Reuters. The footage showed immigration officers chasing and detaining people while bystanders recorded. The Washington Post described people being chased, slammed to the ground and handcuffed.

The clip paired that footage with an edited version of Carpenter’s 2024 song “Juno.” Its caption quoted the lyric, “Have you ever tried this one? Bye-bye,” according to the Associated Press. Axios reported that the edited video repeated “Have you ever tried this one?” over the arrest footage.

The song’s use also carried a different association for Carpenter’s fans: during performances of “Juno,” she has a playful bit in which an audience member is “arrested.” The Washington Post noted that this concert routine is distinct from the enforcement footage in the White House video.

What Sabrina Carpenter said

On Tuesday, December 2, Carpenter objected publicly on X. The AP reported her statement: “this video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”

Her words condemned the video and asked that she and her music not be used to support the message. They do not, by themselves, establish the licensing status of the song or resolve any legal question about its use.

What the White House said in response

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson gave Reuters this response: “Here’s a Short n’ Sweet message for Sabrina Carpenter: we won’t apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country. Anyone who would defend these sick monsters must be stupid, or is it slow?” The Washington Post also reported Jackson’s statement, which references Carpenter’s album Short n’ Sweet and her song.

Jackson’s description of the people shown and her characterization of those who might defend them were the spokeswoman’s assertions. The reports cited here do not independently verify those allegations about the people in the footage.

Does the episode establish that the song was used without permission?

No. The reporting establishes that the White House posted the video, that it included “Juno,” and that Carpenter objected. It does not establish whether the White House or video maker obtained a license, nor does it report a legal finding about permission or fair use. An artist’s public objection is not itself a determination of copyright liability.

How this fits earlier disputes over music and political media

Artists and rights-holders have objected in other cases to political or government use of their work. The AP lists performers including ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Neil Young, Beyoncé and Adele. The Washington Post also describes prior disputes involving Olivia Rodrigo, Kenny Loggins and Semisonic.

Those examples show a recurring point of conflict, not a single legal pattern: the party using the work, the rights involved, the artist’s response, and any removal or court action can differ from case to case. The cited coverage of the “Juno” video does not report a legal determination about its use.
