After South Park satirized Donald Trump in its Season 27 premiere on July 23, 2025, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers criticized the show the next day, calling its ideas “uninspired” and its approach a “desperate attempt for attention.” At San Diego Comic-Con, co-creator Trey Parker answered with a brief, deadpan “We’re terribly sorry.”
What did the White House say about South Park?
On July 24, 2025, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers issued a statement attacking the show after the premiere aired the previous night. Rogers said: “This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention.” The remarks were Rogers’s characterization of the series, not an independently established assessment of its relevance. Rogers also argued that critics who had previously objected to South Park’s offensive content were now praising it. The statement framed that reaction as political hypocrisy; it did not establish that all critics, or any particular group, had changed their views. Rolling Stone Australia; Forbes
What did the premiere depict?
The July 23 episode used fictional, animated satire to portray Trump in a sexualized scenario with Satan and included a nude depiction of the president. These are images and events within the show, not real-world events. Coverage of the episode described the material as part of its satirical portrayal. Associated Press; TVLine
