Which Wrestlers Was Big Show Close to in Real Life? What the Evidence Shows

Paul Wight named Mark Henry as his best friend and spoke warmly about Rikishi, Mick Foley and Chris Jericho. Sabu’s reluctance to wrestle Big Show was about his size and strength, not stated personal dislike.

Paul Wight—known to wrestling fans as Big Show—has publicly called Mark Henry his best friend and Chris Jericho a dear friend. He has also spoken warmly about Rikishi and Mick Foley. The available comments do not establish that Wight personally disliked any wrestler; the clearest negative-sounding example is Sabu saying he dreaded wrestling Big Show because of his size and strength.

Mark Henry was Wight’s clearest example of a close friendship

In a TV Insider interview published April 6, 2020, Wight called Henry his best friend and one of his “dearest, closest friends.” He also praised Henry’s kindness away from the screen. This is the strongest direct evidence in the available comments of a close personal bond between Wight and another wrestler.

Wight also spoke positively about Rikishi, Foley and Jericho

Rikishi and Mick Foley

In the same TV Insider interview, Wight said he had “always had great relationships with Rikishi and Mick Foley.” He noted that Foley was his first opponent in WWE. That statement supports a positive relationship with both men, though it does not describe either one as a best friend.

Chris Jericho

Wight called Jericho “a dear friend” in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, as reported by Wrestling Inc. on August 24, 2021. Wight said Jericho suggested that he speak with Tony Khan after Wight’s WWE deal ended. The comment documents friendship as well as Jericho’s role in connecting Wight with Khan.

Did any wrestlers say they disliked Big Show?

The cited comments do not establish that Wight personally disliked a wrestler, and they do not support an exhaustive list of people he was close to or not close to. A sour-sounding remark about working with Big Show is not, by itself, evidence of private animosity.

Sabu dreaded facing Big Show in the ring

In a Wrestling Inc. report published January 3, 2025, Sabu said, “I don’t know, I guess The Big Show because he’s so big and strong, I would dread wrestling him.” Sabu gave Big Show’s size and strength as the reason. The remark describes reluctance to face a physically imposing opponent; it does not say that Sabu disliked Wight personally.

Drew McIntyre: respect is not proof of close friendship

In a Sports Illustrated interview published in 2020, Wight said he was “really proud” of Drew McIntyre and wanted people to see the Drew he knew. That supports admiration and respect, but it does not establish a close personal friendship.

What the comments establish—and what they do not

Wrestler Who spoke What the comment supports Context
Mark Henry Paul Wight Explicitly described as Wight’s best friend and one of his closest friends TV Insider interview, April 6, 2020
Rikishi Paul Wight Wight said they had always had a great relationship TV Insider interview, April 6, 2020
Mick Foley Paul Wight Wight said they had always had a great relationship TV Insider interview, April 6, 2020; Foley was Wight’s first WWE opponent
Chris Jericho Paul Wight Wight called him a dear friend Interview reported by Wrestling Inc., August 24, 2021
Sabu Sabu Described dread about wrestling Big Show because of his size and strength—not personal dislike Comment reported by Wrestling Inc., January 3, 2025
Drew McIntyre Paul Wight Wight expressed pride and admiration; the comment does not establish close friendship Sports Illustrated interview, 2020

These are distinct kinds of evidence: a direct friendship label, a positive relationship statement, professional admiration, and reluctance to wrestle someone physically imposing. Keeping those categories separate avoids turning a ring comment into a claim about a private relationship.
