Stephen King’s official pages identify Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, 11/22/63, and Insomnia as related through Derry or characters who link Derry to the wider King multiverse. These connections do not mean that every book continues Pennywise’s plot, and no official source provides a definitive list of every related story.
What counts as a connection to It?
This guide uses a practical standard: a work belongs here when an official King or publisher source identifies Derry’s recurrence, or when it documents a direct character connection that bridges Derry to another part of King’s fiction. That makes It the central work, followed by books with substantiated Derry links.
A shared setting or character link is not necessarily a sequel, a continuing Pennywise story, or proof that every detail across the books forms one tightly plotted canon. King’s official Dark Tower page describes the series as a nexus for his creative multiverse; that broader framework helps explain connections without making every King title an It story.
The central story
It (1986)
It is the essential starting point: the novel establishes Derry as the central place in this cluster of connections. Stephen King’s official bibliography records it as a 1986 Viking Press novel. Stories that return to Derry
Simon & Schuster explicitly names three books in which Derry recurs. This is evidence of a setting connection, not a claim that each book retells the events of It or features Pennywise directly.

Insomnia: a character bridge beyond Derry
Insomnia (1994)
Insomnia has a stronger documented connection than a simple return to the setting. King’s official connections page says Patrick Danville lives in Derry and finds his way to Mid-World, linking the novel to both Derry and the Dark Tower’s wider fictional geography. King’s bibliography lists Insomnia as a 1994 Viking Press novel. See the connections page and the official bibliography entry.
How the Dark Tower fits in
King’s official connections page calls the Dark Tower sequence the “linchpin” of his creative multiverse and describes Derry as the setting for many of his stories. It also identifies the Derry link in 11/22/63 and Patrick Danville’s route from Derry to Mid-World in Insomnia. The useful distinction is scale: these are specific bridges in a wider interconnected body of fiction, not evidence that every Dark Tower-linked title is itself part of the It plot.

- Insomnia is connected through Patrick Danville’s Derry and Mid-World link, as described on King’s official connections page.
- The official sources cited here do not provide a complete enumeration of every fleeting reference, Easter egg, or possible connection. A passing mention alone should not be treated as a full crossover.
King’s bibliography is useful for confirming the titles and publication records of It, Insomnia, and 11/22/63, but a bibliography entry by itself does not prove a story connection: Stephen King’s official works bibliography.
