The contemporary crime drama trades the earlier series’ period setting for a present-day London power struggle, with a heavier emphasis on gunfire, brawls and large-scale action.
Who is the Peaky Blinders actor in Gangs of London?
It is Joe Cole. In Peaky Blinders, he played John Shelby, one of the Shelby family’s members. In Gangs of London, he plays Sean Wallace, a central figure in a modern criminal family. The roles put Cole in two British crime dramas, but in markedly different settings and styles.

What is Gangs of London about?
The series began in 2020. Its central conflict follows the aftermath of the death of crime lord Finn Wallace. Sean Wallace is drawn into the struggle for power, alongside undercover operative Elliott Finch. The story is set in contemporary London rather than the period world of the Shelbys.
Is Gangs of London more violent than Peaky Blinders?
BGR characterizes Gangs of London as more violent and action-heavy, pointing to its firepower, fights and siege sequences. That is a qualitative description, not a measured ranking or a critical consensus. The useful distinction is one of emphasis: Peaky Blinders is the period organized-crime drama in this comparison, while Gangs of London presents its crime conflict through contemporary weapons and choreographed action.

How was Joe Cole’s performance received?
BGR quotes The Times describing Cole as “terrific as Sean Wallace… He presented, to me at least, as a complex, repressed soul.” BGR does not identify the original reviewer or give the review date in its article, so the quotation is best understood with that attribution and limitation.
