Aattam (The Play), a Malayalam-language film directed by Anand Ekarshi, won Best Feature Film at the 70th National Film Awards for 2022. The Government of India announced the winners on 16 August 2024.
What did Aattam win?
The official results name Joy Movie Productions LLP as producer and Anand Ekarshi as director of Aattam. The Best Feature Film award consists of a Swarna Kamal and Rs. 3,00,000 for each named awardee, according to the Press Information Bureau announcement of 16 August 2024.
Why are the award year and announcement year different?
The 70th National Film Awards recognized films for 2022, but the winners were announced in 2024. The edition number, award year and announcement date refer to different things: this was the 70th edition, for films of 2022, with results made public on 16 August 2024.
Is Best Feature Film the same as Best Malayalam Film?
No. Best Feature Film and the language-specific Best Malayalam Film are separate categories. The official feature-film results backgrounder lists Saudi Vellakka CC.225/2009 as the Best Malayalam Film winner. That result does not make the two films head-to-head contenders in one category: Aattam won Best Feature Film.
