The answer depends on what you want scheduled: YouTube Studio can publish an individual video at a chosen time, and Simplecast documents scheduling video episodes to connected YouTube playlists. Neither is evidence of a recurring playlist-rotation scheduler.
First, distinguish the three scheduling jobs
- Publish videos into a playlist: a video becomes public at a selected date and time, or an episode is scheduled to publish to a connected playlist.
- Start a live stream: a YouTube live event begins at a chosen time and plays selected content.
- Switch playlists automatically: a system selects different playlists according to a recurring calendar, such as weekdays at 9 a.m. The sources reviewed do not confirm a service that does this.
Publishing a video into a playlist is not the same as scheduling that playlist for playback. Confirm that a provider can demonstrate the exact action and recurrence you need before relying on it.
What the documented options do
| Option | Documented scheduling action | Recurring weekday playlist switching | Time-zone detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio scheduled publishing | Schedules an individual private video to become public at a selected date and time. | Not established by the cited publishing guidance. | Choose a time zone when scheduling. YouTube says the public watch-page date is based on Pacific Standard Time, so it can differ from the creator’s selected local date. |
| Simplecast | Schedules a video episode to publish to one or more connected YouTube playlists, with a date and time selected for each playlist. | Not established; the documented workflow is episode publication, not recurring rotation. | The cited help page allows selection of a schedule date and time; recurring calendar behavior is not established. |
| YouTube Data API playlist resource | Supports playlist data and management methods such as listing, creating, updating, and deleting playlists. | Not established by the playlist resource documentation. | Not applicable to a documented playback schedule. |
Schedule a video with YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, upload the video and complete its details.
- In the visibility or publishing controls, choose Schedule.
- Set the date, time, and time zone in the Schedule card, then confirm the schedule.
- If the video should appear in a playlist, add it to that playlist in Studio. This organizes the video; it does not schedule playlist playback or rotation.
YouTube’s guidance describes scheduled publishing as making a private video public at a specific time. A Community Guidelines strike can prevent a scheduled video from publishing during the penalty period; the video remains private until it is rescheduled. Check the selected time zone carefully: YouTube notes that the watch-page date is based on Pacific Standard Time and may show a different date for creators scheduling from time zones ahead of Pacific time.
When Simplecast may fit
Simplecast’s help material describes publishing video episodes to one or more connected YouTube playlists and selecting a publication date and time for each playlist. That can suit a documentary channel releasing individual episodes on a calendar. It does not establish a rule such as “play Playlist A every weekday at 9 a.m.” or automatic weekly playlist rotation. Ask Simplecast to confirm the exact behavior if that is your requirement.

What playlist management and the API do not establish
YouTube Studio supports creating and managing playlists, setting visibility, adding videos, and changing their order. Those controls manage the playlist itself; they are not documented as timed playback controls. The YouTube Data API playlist resource likewise describes playlist data and management methods, not a scheduler that starts playback or switches playlists at specified times.
How to evaluate a recurring playlist scheduler
Before subscribing to a service, ask for a demonstration using your actual channel and calendar. Verify each of these points:
