Spoiler warning: this article covers deaths and survival outcomes from the end of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga. If you are only caught up on the anime, stop here, because the adaptation may not yet have reached these events.
The short answer: by the end of the original manga, several prominent named characters are confirmed dead, including Suguru Geto, Kento Nanami, Naobito Zenin, Mai Zenin, and Satoru Gojo. Ryomen Sukuna is defeated and no longer inhabits Megumi Fushiguro, which is a different kind of ending from an ordinary death. Nobara Kugisaki appears to die in Shibuya but later returns, and Yuta Okkotsu survives.

Define the scope before reading the list
The question has three different meanings, and the answers differ. Readers may mean the anime so far, the completed manga, or the wider franchise. This article answers for the original manga, which concludes in volume 30, the final collected volume listed by Shonen Jump. Shonen Jump’s official site also maintains character pages for the anime, but its publisher summaries are plot descriptions and not comprehensive death indexes.
The franchise has continued past the original ending. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is an official sequel set 68 years after the Culling Game, so the original ending does not close every storyline. Its characters and events are outside the scope of this answer.

Confirmed deaths by the end of the manga
The table below lists prominent named characters whose deaths are established in the original manga. It is a selected list, not a complete roster of every named character, historical figure, or cursed spirit. Each row states the status at the end of the manga, where the death occurs, and any important qualification.
| Character | Status at the end of the manga | Where the death occurs | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suguru Geto | Dead | Prequel story, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 | Later appearances involve another entity using his body. Geto himself does not return. |
| Kento Nanami | Dead | Shibuya Incident | Dies after Mahito fatally injures him. |
| Naobito Zenin | Dead | Shibuya Incident | Dies after being badly burned. |
| Mai Zenin | Dead | Zenin clan events | Sacrifices herself in the process that enables Maki’s transformation. |
| Satoru Gojo | Dead | Later battle with Sukuna | Sealed during Shibuya, but his death comes later, in a separate event. |
| Ryomen Sukuna | Defeated; no longer inhabits Megumi Fushiguro | Conclusion of the manga | This is a supernatural endpoint, not a conventional human death, so it is listed separately from the human characters above. |
Status cases that are easy to misread
Several characters have outcomes that a simple dead or alive label gets wrong. These are the cases that most often lead to incorrect answers.
Rank #2
Satoru Gojo: sealed first, dies later
Gojo is sealed during the Shibuya Incident. That sealing is not his death. He dies later in the manga, in the battle with Sukuna. Shonen Jump’s volume 27 summary refers to his death in this later conflict, and readers who stop at Shibuya will have an incomplete answer.
Nobara Kugisaki: apparent death, then return
Nobara suffers a seemingly fatal injury during Shibuya, and the story leaves her status unclear for a long stretch. A secondary reference reports that she returns in chapter 267. She should not be counted among the confirmed deaths in the ending.
Rank #3
Yuta Okkotsu: survives
Yuta is not an example of a confirmed permanent death. He is placed in an apparently fatal situation and then survives. Body transfer and injury are not the same as permanent death, so verify the final chapters directly before stating his outcome in detail.
Ryomen Sukuna: defeated, not a standard death
At the conclusion, Sukuna is defeated and ceases to inhabit Megumi. Describing this as “Sukuna dies” overstates the evidence in a way that might confuse readers about his supernatural nature, so the table uses the endpoint language instead.
Rank #4
What the list does not count
The list excludes several categories, and each of them can change the answer if counted differently:
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Cursed spirits that are defeated. Their destruction is not counted as a named character death.
- Reincarnated participants and possessed bodies. A body that is used by another entity does not count as the original character alive.
- Historical figures and unnamed civilians. Mass casualties and background deaths are outside a character-status answer.
- Characters in the anime only. The anime may not yet have reached these events.
How to verify a status yourself
- Open volume 30 of the manga, the final collected volume, and read the last chapters for the outcome of Sukuna, Megumi, and the surviving cast.
- For each character, check the chapter where the death or return happens, not a summary.
- For Gojo, read both the Shibuya sealing and the later Sukuna battle as separate events.
- For Nobara, read the Shibuya injury and then the chapter where she returns before deciding her status.
