Gunbuster—also known as Aim for the Top! and Top wo Nerae!—is available to Western viewers on Blu-ray with English-language options. The most direct choice is Discotek Media’s complete six-episode OVA release, which the distributor says includes an all-new English dub. A UK Blu-ray listing also specifies English audio and subtitles, but is marked Region B. A current streaming home for the complete series is not confirmed by the listings available here.
Where can you watch Gunbuster?
The verified Western access route is physical media. Discotek’s Gunbuster complete OVA Blu-ray contains episodes 1–6 and is marketed with an all-new English dub. The distributor describes it as the anime directed by Hideaki Anno, whom it identifies as making his directorial debut with the series.

For a UK release, the Anime Limited Blu-ray listing specifies English and Japanese audio, English subtitles, 1080p video, and Region B playback. Check that your player supports the disc’s region before buying, especially if you are outside the UK or another Region B territory.

Which Blu-ray edition should you choose?
| Edition | What the listing establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Discotek complete OVA Blu-ray | Episodes 1–6 and an all-new English dub; the distributor identifies Hideaki Anno as director. Discotek Media | Confirm current retailer stock and that the disc suits your playback setup. |
| Anime Limited UK Blu-ray | English and Japanese audio, English subtitles, 1080p video, and Region B. Blu-ray.com listing | Confirm your player supports Region B. |
| Japanese Bandai Namco Filmworks box, BCXA-1836 | Three Blu-ray discs, all six episodes, bonus materials, Japanese audio, and no subtitles. CDJapan listing | Not an English-friendly choice according to the listing; CDJapan says it is no longer available there, though it may be obtainable elsewhere. |
The Japanese-market box is a poor fit if you need English dialogue or subtitles: its listing specifies Japanese audio and no subtitles. The available page does not establish English-language support for that edition.
Is Gunbuster available with an English dub or subtitles?
Yes. Discotek specifically promotes an all-new English dub for its complete OVA Blu-ray. The UK Anime Limited listing specifies English audio and English subtitles alongside Japanese audio. Those details apply to the respective listed releases; do not assume that every edition has the same tracks.
Is Gunbuster streaming?
A current streaming listing for the complete six-episode OVA is not confirmed here. A Crunchyroll Store page lists a Blu-ray for Gunbuster the Movie, but that is a separate compilation-film product, not evidence that the complete OVA is available on Crunchyroll’s streaming service. Check the current catalog for your country if you are looking for streaming access.
Is Gunbuster the Movie the same as the six-episode series?
No. Gunbuster the Movie is a distinct compilation-film release. The Crunchyroll Store Blu-ray listing describes bonus features including Japanese commentary, staff and cast interviews, and clean opening and closing animation. Choose a listing that explicitly says it contains OVA episodes 1–6 if you want the complete series.

What is Gunbuster?
Gunbuster is a six-episode OVA directed by Hideaki Anno. Discotek describes the Blu-ray as containing “OVA episodes 1-6” and calls the work Anno’s directorial debut. The distributor also markets its release as the first Blu-ray edition with an all-new English dub; that is a claim about its release, not a guarantee that other territories or editions share the same format or language options.
The title’s reputation as influential is best treated carefully: the product listings establish the series’ format, director, and release details, but do not independently document specific later works or creators it influenced. The Japanese listing’s description of staff who influenced later anime and visual media is not, by itself, a detailed history of that influence.
