Jennifer Lopez said her split from Ben Affleck changed her and helped her grow. In a CBS News Sunday Morning interview aired September 28, 2025, she described the period as difficult but, looking back, called it “the best thing that ever happened to me.” That was her retrospective view of what she learned—not a claim that the experience was easy.
What Lopez said about her life after the split
Asked about the experience, Lopez connected it to personal growth and a clearer understanding of herself. ABC News quoted her saying: “Because it changed me,” she said. “It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow ….[I] became more self-aware, I am a different person now than I was last year, a year and a half ago.”

Her description gives a direct answer to how she says she is doing: she sees herself as changed and more self-aware. Calling the experience “the best thing that ever happened to me” was her way of describing its eventual effect on her, not minimizing the pain she said accompanied it. Why she described the period as difficult
Lopez also spoke about the contrast between work and home while she was making Kiss of the Spider Woman. “Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy,” she said. “And then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, oh, you know, ‘How do I reconcile this?’ but you get through it.”

The contrast helps explain why her reflection holds both hardship and growth: she recalled being happy while working on the film and struggling with what was happening in her personal life. Her account does not provide a full explanation of the marriage or the private circumstances of the breakup.

How her earlier comments compare
Lopez had already spoken about self-examination in 2024. In an Interview magazine conversation with Nikki Glaser, she said she was looking at the beliefs and feelings behind her choices and patterns. Those earlier remarks and her 2025 account both emphasize looking inward, but public comments are only a partial view of a person’s private life. The later interview gives her own retrospective description of what changed; it does not establish every reason for the divorce.

In an August 12, 2025 Instagram post quoted by ELLE, Lopez called the summer “the most beautiful, happy, and free.” That is her own public characterization. ELLE also described her as having a particularly happy summer based on an unnamed People source; that is insider reporting, not a direct statement from Lopez.

Similarly, CinemaBlend relayed anonymous People-source claims that Lopez and Affleck were on friendly terms and that their children remained close. Those details should be understood as attributed reporting, not independently confirmed facts or comments from either Lopez or Affleck.
