As of October 2026, Ron Luce is identified by Generation Next as its co-founder and visionary. The organization says he coaches church leaders through Project 13 and Ministry Masterclasses. Teen Mania Ministries and its Acquire the Fire events ceased operating in December 2015. Luce later issued a response to criticism featured in the documentary series Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War; former participants have also described harmful experiences. Those accounts conflict, and the sources cited here do not resolve them.
What does Ron Luce do now?
Generation Next describes itself as a ministry focused on helping churches reach and disciple young people. Its biography identifies Luce as a co-founder and visionary and says he coaches church leaders through Project 13 and Ministry Masterclasses. These are the organization’s descriptions of its programs and Luce’s role. Generation Next’s biography does not establish a comparable successor role for Teen Mania; the two organizations should not be conflated.
Generation Next also reports that its 2019 Jesus Global Youth Day in Manila drew 50,000 young people in person from 30 nations, with online participation at 101,000 host sites. Those attendance figures are the organization’s own claims, not independently corroborated figures in the sources cited here.
What happened to Teen Mania?
Luce and his wife, Katie, co-founded Teen Mania in 1986, according to CBN’s profile. The Christian youth ministry became known for Acquire the Fire events, Global Expeditions mission trips and the Honor Academy leadership internship. Teen Mania and Acquire the Fire ceased operations in December 2015.

In a contemporaneous interview with Christianity Today, Luce said, “Teen Mania has completed this assignment.” The article described financial strain and reported his explanation that the Honor Academy campus and recurring losses contributed to the organization’s difficulties. It also discussed alumni criticism and the possibility that some practices needed to change.

What has Luce said about the documentary and criticism?
The 2025 docuseries Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War renewed attention to former Teen Mania participants’ accounts. AOL’s report, republishing People coverage, describes allegations of long workdays and coercive or cult-like conditions at the Honor Academy. These are reported allegations and personal accounts, not findings established by the sources cited here. The report says Luce did not participate in the docuseries interview process.
In a written response dated July 30, 2025, Luce disputed the series’ framing and argued that it emphasized a small number of negative accounts. He also acknowledged that not everyone involved had a positive experience, describing those experiences as painful for him and his wife. His statements about the number of participants, ministry outcomes and overall impact represent his account, not independent verification. The response is available as a PDF of Luce’s statement.

The disagreement predates the series. In its 2015 closure report, Christianity Today described alumni accusations of spiritual abuse and a dispute over how many people complained. Luce said the Honor Academy lost significant money and acknowledged that the organization may not have understood that some practices needed to change.
