Josh Duggar is serving a 151-month federal prison sentence. The most recent location reporting we could locate, from July 2026, places him at FCI Elkton in Ohio, after transfers through a Texas federal medical center and a federal transfer center in Oklahoma City. Those reports are dated July 2026. They do not confirm where he is held as of October 8, 2026, so check the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator before relying on the facility name below.
Where Josh Duggar is held now
The latest reported location is FCI Elkton, a federal correctional institution in Ohio. That placement was identified in a July 11, 2026 report and repeated in a July 12, 2026 report from WBRC, which carried Gray News coverage. Neither report establishes his location on any later date, and no official record we could access confirmed the facility for October 2026.

How to check his location today
- Open the Federal Bureau of Prisons online inmate locator and search by name.
- Compare the listed facility with the July 2026 reporting above. If they differ, the BOP record is the more current source.
- Note the release date shown on the same page. The BOP warns that displayed release dates may not reflect pending recalculations under First Step Act time-credit reviews, so treat it as provisional.
If the locator shows no record, do not infer that he has been released. Confirm through the court docket or a current news report that names the facility and date.

The sentence and the conviction
A federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas sentenced Duggar on May 27, 2022, after he was found guilty of receiving and possessing child pornography. The June 1, 2026 court order that recounts the sentence lists the following terms:
- Prison term: 151 months, roughly 12 years and 7 months. News coverage often rounds this to “more than 12 years.”
- Supervised release: 20 years after release.
- Fine: $10,000.
- Special assessment: $35,100.
These figures come from the sentence as imposed by the court. They are not a prediction of when he will leave prison.
Projected release date
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported in June 2026 that Duggar’s release was then scheduled for February 2033. We did not find a live Bureau of Prisons record confirming that month and year, and a projected date can change if time credits are recalculated. Read February 2033 as a dated projection, not a guaranteed release date.
Appeals and post-conviction litigation
Direct appeal and Supreme Court review
The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the sentence on direct appeal. The Supreme Court denied certiorari, meaning it declined to hear the case, on June 24, 2024.

June 2026 motion to vacate
In June 2026, the district court denied a later motion to vacate his sentence as untimely. The ruling turned on procedure rather than on whether each claim had merit. The court found that Duggar did not prove he had deposited the motion in the prison’s legal-mail system by the June 24, 2025 deadline. The judge wrote in the June 1, 2026 order:
“The issue before the Court is whether Mr. Duggar should benefit from the prison mailbox rule. The answer is clearly no.”
Rank #4
That sentence is about timeliness under the prison mailbox rule, which treats a filing as made when a prisoner hands it to prison staff for mailing. It does not decide the underlying claims.
New Eighth Circuit appeal
An appeal from the June 1, 2026 order was docketed in the Eighth Circuit on June 17, 2026 as case 26-2200. The public docket listing we could access was last retrieved on June 18, 2026 and does not show a later ruling. Treat the appeal as pending unless a current docket check shows otherwise.

No source we reviewed gives a reason for the Seagoville-to-Fort Worth move or the later transfers. The Star-Telegram said its request for the reason had not been answered when it published. Any explanation beyond the reported dates would be speculation.
