The widely reported kiss after Prince Harry’s charity polo win took place in Berkshire, England—not Wellington. On 26 July 2018, Meghan Markle presented the winning trophy at the Sentebale Polo Cup and kissed Harry. A separate Sentebale polo event in Wellington, Florida, in April 2024 may account for the location confusion.
Where did the 2018 trophy-presentation kiss happen?
The match was the Sentebale Polo Cup, held on 26 July 2018 at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club in Windsor, England. ITV reported that Harry’s team won 5–4. Meghan presented the trophy, then kissed him. ITV’s report of the match and presentation and ABC News’ account place the event in Berkshire, not Wellington.

Why is Wellington associated with a Sentebale polo match?
Harry and Meghan attended a different Sentebale charity polo event in Wellington, Florida, in April 2024: the Royal Salute Polo Challenge. The Associated Press reported that Harry received the mini-tournament trophy and Meghan kissed him on the cheek. This was not the 2018 Berkshire match. The Associated Press’ coverage of the Florida event describes that separate occasion.

Was there also a royal visit to Wellington, New Zealand?
Yes. Harry and Meghan visited Wellington, New Zealand, in October 2018 as part of a royal tour. Official itinerary material describes public engagements there, separate from both polo events. New Zealand’s Department of Internal Affairs’ royal visit itinerary and the Governor-General’s information about the visit document that stop; neither makes it the location of the July polo match.
