Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn are still married and raising their family. They have kept many details of their private lives away from the public while continuing to speak about the 2015 kidnapping, the police response and the reforms they believe can better protect victims.

Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn are still married and raising their family. They have also remained involved in the public conversation surrounding the 2015 kidnapping that made them nationally known—speaking about victim treatment, investigative failures and the need for more evidence-based law-enforcement interviewing.

The couple have largely kept their private life out of the spotlight. Reliable current reporting does not establish their home address, exact city, employers, income or children’s schools, so those details should not be treated as public facts. What is clear is that Huskins and Quinn have built a life together while selectively returning to the case through their memoir, documentary appearances, interviews and survivor-focused advocacy.

Are Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn still together?

Yes. Huskins and Quinn married in September 2018, according to their publisher biographies. Netflix’s coverage of American Nightmare and more recent reporting continue to describe them as a married couple.

Their relationship has particular significance because both were subjected to public suspicion after Huskins’s abduction. Quinn reported the crime and was initially treated by investigators as a possible suspect. After Huskins returned, authorities publicly questioned whether the kidnapping had happened at all. The couple’s decision to tell the story together has therefore been part of both their personal recovery and their effort to correct the public record.

Do Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn have children?

Current reporting says that Huskins and Quinn are raising two daughters. Penguin Random House’s author biography confirms that they welcomed a daughter, Olivia, in 2020. Because the publisher biography is not a complete, continually updated family record, it is more responsible to identify the couple as parents of two daughters without adding private details that have not been clearly and authoritatively published.

They have not made their children’s daily lives a central part of their public work. Information about schools, locations, routines and other identifying details should remain private.

What do they do for work?

Huskins and Quinn are identified by Penguin Random House as physical therapists. Available sources do not reliably verify their current employers, clinic locations or whether either works full time in clinical practice. Older biographies and online speculation should not be used to fill in those gaps.

Their public-facing work has expanded beyond their healthcare careers. They speak about what happened to them, how victims can be disbelieved and how investigative assumptions can compound trauma. In February 2025, CBS News California reported that they were working with El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson and other experts on science-based interviewing and training.

The goal of that work is to encourage investigative methods that are grounded in reliable interviewing science rather than confession-driven tactics or premature conclusions. Their experience gives the subject a personal urgency, but the broader issue applies to how investigators interview victims and suspects in many kinds of cases.

What happened to them after the 2015 kidnapping?

On March 23, 2015, an intruder entered Quinn’s home in Vallejo, California, attacked and restrained the couple, and kidnapped Huskins. Federal case records identify Huskins and Quinn as victims and document the ransom demands connected to the crime.

When Huskins returned, however, Vallejo investigators publicly treated the account as a possible hoax. Quinn had already been viewed with suspicion, and Huskins was publicly portrayed as having staged her own disappearance. That response became one of the defining injustices of the case: the victims were not simply forced to endure a violent crime, but were then confronted with disbelief from authorities and the wider public.

The investigation changed after evidence connected the crime to Matthew Muller. He was later prosecuted in federal court. The U.S. Department of Justice plea agreement is the most reliable source for the federal case record and should take precedence over dramatic retellings or unsupported theories about other alleged participants.

The civil settlement and later Vallejo reforms

Huskins and Quinn sued the city of Vallejo and reached a $2.5 million settlement in March 2018. Contemporary reporting described the settlement as resolving claims arising from the public treatment of Huskins’s kidnapping as fabricated.

That settlement should not be confused with a later statewide reform proceeding. In April 2024, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a settlement requiring reforms at the Vallejo Police Department, with oversight and enforcement authority for the California Department of Justice.

The reform announcement is important context for the couple’s continuing advocacy, but it does not establish that every problem at the department has been solved. It sets out required changes and oversight; it is not, by itself, a completed evaluation of all reform outcomes.

What is American Nightmare about?

American Nightmare is a three-episode Netflix documentary series about the attack, Huskins’s kidnapping, the authorities’ suspicions and the eventual identification of an unexpected perpetrator. Netflix’s official episode descriptions trace the reversal in the case: Quinn becomes a suspect, Huskins returns to a climate of disbelief, and investigators later connect the crime to additional attempted kidnappings.

Netflix Tudum’s companion coverage presents the couple as still together years later and includes Huskins discussing the layers of betrayal and injustice she associated with the investigation. The series premiered in 2024 and generated renewed international interest, but it is not itself a new development in their lives. The more recent update is their continued participation in interviews and advocacy, including 2026 48 Hours coverage.

Where to watch: Netflix is the confirmed official distributor of American Nightmare. Availability can vary by country and can change over time, so viewers should check their local Netflix catalog rather than assume that every regional listing is identical.

Did they write a book?

Yes. Huskins and Quinn co-authored Victim F: From Crime Victims to Suspects to Survivors with investigative journalist Nicole Weisensee Egan. Penguin Random House lists hardcover, paperback, ebook and audiobook editions.

The memoir covers the kidnapping, the police response and the aftermath in the couple’s own account. It was originally published in 2021, so it should not be described as a newly released book. Readers who want their perspective rather than a dramatized or documentary retelling can read Victim F: From Crime Victims to Suspects to Survivors; edition, price and availability depend on the retailer and location.

What are Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn doing now?

The most accurate description is that they are private family members who also work as survivor advocates and educators. They have not withdrawn completely from public life, but neither have they turned their personal lives into a constant media presence.

Their public discussions generally return to several connected issues:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • the harm caused when investigators assume a victim is lying;
  • confirmation bias and the failure to test an early theory against the evidence;
  • the treatment of victims after a violent crime; and
  • the value of science-based, trauma-informed interviewing.

Their collaboration with prosecutors and experts on interviewing training is a concrete continuation of those themes. It also explains why the couple continue to discuss a case that occurred more than a decade ago: for them, the issue is not only what happened in 2015, but how investigative systems can avoid repeating the same failures.

What remains unknown about their lives?

There is no reliable basis for publishing an exact current address or city, named employers, finances, children’s schools or ordinary family routines. Nor is there evidence that they have completely left public life. Current reporting shows continued interviews, documentary participation and advocacy.

It is also important not to present internet theories about additional conspirators or unrelated people as established facts. The federal case record and official court documents provide the appropriate foundation for claims about the criminal case. Similarly, the California reform settlement should be described as an ongoing accountability framework—not as proof that all institutional problems have already disappeared.
