Why the answer depends on the stage labels

What the season covers
The story is set in America in 1890 and follows a cross-continent horse race. Netflix describes the 2nd STAGE as centering on Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli, who must cross a desert of roughly 750 miles known as the Devil’s Palm. The official JoJo franchise site credits Hirohiko Araki as the original story creator, which is useful background if you want to read the source material alongside the anime.
