Her life and music beyond Johnny Cash
June Carter Cash was a first-generation descendant of the original Carter Family, a foundational country-music group. She developed her own musical career and was Johnny Cash’s longtime singing partner; they were married for more than thirty years. The Country Music Hall of Fame also notes her early association with Chet Atkins and friendship with Patsy Cline.

Her solo albums Press On (1999) and Wildwood Flower (released posthumously in 2003) brought together her compositions and Carter Family classics. Both were produced by her son John Carter Cash and won the Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album, according to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum biography.
