When did Angel Reese make her SI Swimsuit debut?
Sports Illustrated announced Reese’s appearance in May 2023, and the issue was scheduled for release on May 12. The official photo gallery appeared May 15, 2023. The debut was part of the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue, not a later edition. Read SI’s profile and announcement and view the official gallery.
Where was the photo shoot?
Yu Tsai photographed Reese in Los Angeles. The official gallery credits swimwear from Solo Studio, Miaou, Goldie Swimwear, Leslie Amon, Indah, Medina, AEXAE, Asta Resort and Louisa Ballou. Some looks also included jewelry credited to Brinker + Eliza, Alizia and Louis Abel. These are wardrobe credits for the shoot; they do not establish that Reese endorsed the brands or that the pieces remain available.
What did the appearance agreement cover?
A May 8, 2023 report by LSU Country, a Sports Illustrated publication, said the magazine characterized Reese’s arrangement as a “standard agreement” to appear in print and digital editorial media and attend the launch event. That report does not establish the contract’s terms beyond that description or disclose compensation. Reese appeared in the 2023 print edition; current retailer stock or a particular product listing has not been verified. Read the LSU Country report.

Why the debut drew attention
The feature followed a landmark season for LSU women’s basketball. In April 2023, LSU defeated Iowa 102–85 to win its first NCAA women’s basketball championship, and Reese was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player. Sports Illustrated reported that the championship final drew 9.9 million viewers in 2023; that figure refers to the game, not Reese’s Swimsuit feature.
At the time of the feature, Reese was a junior forward who had transferred to LSU after two years at Maryland. Those are details from 2023, not a description of her current roster status.
What Reese and SI said
In the 2023 SI coverage, Reese said, “I embrace my body and who I am and every mark on my body.” She also said, “Women can be who we are; women can be competitive.” SI Swimsuit editor in chief MJ Day described Reese as “a fierce advocate” for growing women’s basketball. These are statements from the 2023 reporting, not current comments.

SI’s 2023 reporting listed Reese partnerships with Leaf Trading Cards, Campus Ink, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Raising Cane’s, Coach, McDonald’s and Amazon Merch on Demand. Its profile also named Coach, Amazon Merch on Demand, McDonald’s and Mercedes-Benz Baton Rouge. These lists describe reported associations at that time; they do not establish current partnerships or compensation. Likewise, the brands credited for swimwear and accessories in the shoot should not be read as endorsements of every item.
