What We Do in the Shadows ends with three brief alternate hypnosis scenes—not three full versions of the finale. They parody The Usual Suspects, Rosemary’s Baby and Newhart. FX aired different versions at different times on finale night, while reports from December 2024 said Hulu offered the other scenes as extras. Hulu’s current availability has not been verified.
What are the alternate endings?
In the finale, “The Finale,” Nadja breaks the fourth wall and tells viewers she will hypnotize them into seeing the ending they imagine. That setup leads to three short variations, each styled as a different kind of movie or television ending.

|---|---|
| The Usual Suspects | Colin Robinson and the Guide are part of a criminal scheme, framed with a police-station setting. |
| Rosemary’s Baby | Nadja enters a recreated room with a bassinet, evoking the film’s ominous imagery. |
| Newhart | Nandor and Guillermo wake together in bed in a dream-reveal gag. TV Insider identified this as the ending in the streaming episode. |
The sequences are alternate tags on the ending, not evidence of a hidden, full-length alternate finale. Production post producer Todd Aronauer said the scenes were also delivered to Hulu as additional content. Panavision’s production interview also describes how the crew built the police-station set and recreated the room and bassinet for the parodies.
How can you watch all three?
As of December 17–18, 2024, TV Insider, TVLine and Gizmodo reported that Hulu placed the other hypnosis scenes in the episode’s Extras area. The labels were reported slightly differently: “Extra Hypnosis” by TVLine and TV Insider, and “Extra Hypnosis Features” by Gizmodo. These are historical reports, not confirmation that the extras remain available today. Check the current What We Do in the Shadows listing on Hulu for its present extras and episode options.
#1 Best Overall
The FX broadcast order was different from the single streaming-episode ending described by TV Insider. Aronauer reported this sequence for FX on finale night: The Usual Suspects at 10 p.m., Rosemary’s Baby at 10:30 p.m. and Newhart at 11 p.m. Those times describe the reported broadcast schedule, not a current viewing schedule. TV Insider’s account and TVLine’s viewing report cover the original broadcast and extras.

The device turns the finale into a joke about endings themselves. Nadja addresses the audience directly, and the show’s mockumentary format briefly gives way to the visual language of other films and television. The result is a playful coda rather than a second, complete ending to the vampires’ story.

Showrunner Paul Simms said he had not thought of Dallas while the team brainstormed possible endings. He made the remark in an interview published by The Playlist on August 18, 2025. In a Los Angeles Times oral history published May 28, 2025, Simms called Bob Newhart his favorite comedian, helping explain why the finale’s dream-reveal reference was a fitting choice.
