Brittany Mahomes’ reported “new cool addition” was a bright pink starfish pictured in the family’s home aquarium. AOL reported that she shared the image in an Instagram Story on September 11, 2024, with the caption, “Our new cool addition to our aquarium 😍”. The starfish’s species was not identified.
What Brittany Mahomes shared
In a report published September 12, 2024, AOL’s Carly Silva said Mahomes had posted a photo of the pink starfish to her Instagram Story the previous day. The animal was shown suctioned to the side of the aquarium, with other aquatic pets visible in the background. The account is based on AOL’s report of the Story; the available coverage does not identify the starfish beyond describing its color and appearance.
The aquarium in earlier coverage
The family’s home aquarium had appeared in news coverage before the starfish post. In July 2023, The Kansas City Star reported on a large aquarium in the Mahomes home and said friends had given the couple fish as a housewarming gift. That earlier account provides context for the home aquarium, but it does not establish the tank’s current inhabitants or setup.
What remains unknown
Neither the starfish’s species nor the aquarium’s water type, conditions, or equipment is specified in the available reports. There is therefore no basis here to identify its care requirements or to infer which other animals share the tank.

Family context in the 2024 report
AOL’s September 2024 article noted that Brittany and Patrick Mahomes were expecting their third child at the time. Their daughter Golden Raye was born on January 12, 2025, according to the Associated Press. Separately, ABC News reported that Brittany took her children to a public aquarium in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX in February 2025; that outing was unrelated to the aquarium at home.
